450 Rigby Mauser or Heym?

Per our conversation last night, I think both are fantastic rifles. Each rifle will perform flawlessly and ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

I’ll let you “let the cat out of the bag” :censored:

Heym is the word.

Amen to that Andrew ! :)

The 1980's era Heym Express, described by Heym USA's Chris Sells as an "East German tractor, ungainly but indestructible" was in a class in itself, and the new Heym rifle made by Ralph Martini is much more refined and more "anglicized", but its stock is likely not as robust, if only because it is half the size. The modern M98 Mauser likely splits the difference.

And of course in the same price range, a Rigby stocked and finished Mauser barreled action is also an option. As well as a rifle made on a Granite Mountain action or a few other like Prechtl or Mayfair. Not to overlook the rare but occasionally available Imperial Magnum from Dumoulin.

If you are willing to look at Sako, The Beretta Gallery in Dallas had an abundance of .450 Rigby Model 85 rifles when I went to the Iphisi event.

I think both are about equal quality, if you are talking about new rifles.

Both are excellent.

Just get the one you like the best!

Do you have a link to their site?

Thanks

I may be wrong, but I believe that Ralf Martini designed these rifles, but does not make them.

Granite Mountain makes a great action, perhaps the best M98 yet built.

But, for my money, if you're buying a 450 Rigby, why not get a real Rigby?

Both are top notch, Krish. I personally prefer the Heym.

If you were asking about .375H&H or 404J I would have said Heym Martini; but you had to go big bore so I would say buy a Rigby if you want a .450Rigby.

Or would you prefer…. If you are going to buy a Rigby; why not just upgrade to a double?

It's hard to deny that a Rigby rifle chambered in a Rigby cartridge would be just about perfect. That said...Heym and Mauser both offer all the way up to bespoke to suit your tastes. You are not going to make a bad decision from those three choices.

If it were me, I'd take the Heym Martini Express because that rifle just suits me up and down.

Why don't you let the cat out of the bag as @Andrew Short mentioned earlier.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
