Has anyone had any experience with these rifles - Remington 798 Express? I found a really good deal on them (.375 and .458) and wanted to know if they were a worth a shot!

If you're talking about the screaming deal at CDNN.. Get them while they're hot! It's the same outfit that built them for Interarms, Whitworth, Charles Daly and now Big Green. Big Green dropped them off the roster and CDNN picked up the leftovers. I've got 3 of them (1 Interarm and 2 Whitworths)and they're a good Mauser 98 action with a hammer forged tube. These prices are better than I paid 4 years ago. I just talked a buddy into getting 06's for his kids as starter rifles.. Good rifles and a great value.

Mike,
Yep, I ordered my .375 H&H yesterday. Since I am not a big fan of laminates or synthetics, I opted for the one with the deluxe walnut stock. I am very excited. This gun will be put back until I have a chance to hunt some plains game in Africa or maybe bear or moose up in Alaska.

Where are you guys seeing these deals on CDNN? I'm looking on their website but I'm not seeing any firearms listed.

Actually they were listed on one of their email flyers. This is copied from the flyer. Once you call their number ask them to put you on the mailing list.

I prefer real wood over the pastic or plywood too! Based on the wy mine have served you'll like it alot. Drag it out and break it in ASAP just for the grin factor! :D

Fisrt Impressions...out of the box

Although I haven't shot the Rem 798 yet, this is my first impression of my $600.00 big game rifle.
Metal finish- Highly polished and nicely blued. Seems to be a little rougher on the reciever directly behind the follower. I believe that this is where some matal might have been removed to allow for the longer .375 bullet length.
Wood - Very nice straight grain walnut. Pretty but plain. I would like to remove the angled end of the forend and add an ebony tip.
Checkering - nicely done for a work gun.
Weight - probably adequate for a rifle of this caliber.
Wood to metal fit - It seems as if some work might be required. I can't run a sheet of paper between stock and barrel the complete length of the inletting.
Fit - Rifle seems to fit me well, but I am of average arm length.
Recoil pad - Standard Remington pad..a bit hard for my liking. Maybe a Pachmayr decelerator will replace it.
Sights - The open sights are adequate, but a three leaf express sight may be in this guns future.
This rifle may be a work in progress, but I must say it is a good foundation.
I am very happy so far, but I still have to touch off a few rounds.

...I never fired one of these guns, but I have fondled a couple & they seem like a decent gun for the price. I'm interested in the accuracy if any of you guys can let us know It would be appreciated!

For this price they are a great gun.
They are made by the same company that built Interarms and Chas. Daly. They have a good reputation. I had my Interarms Whitworth 375 out yesterday and it was doing quite well with factory fodder.

I haven't had a chance to see one yet, but i have heard that they have a bit of a sloppy action, is this this right? how does the controlled feed feel, is it positive engagement? thanks

I haven't had a chance to take it out yet (or buy ammo). The action is as tight and smooth as any Mauser 98 action that I have ever used. That may be good or bad!

Hi.
Produces Remington 799/798 carbines - Zastava-Arms.
ZASTAVA ARMS
below information
Remington Model 798 and 799 Rifles (Rem. 798, Rem. 799)

I'm thinking I should get one in the 375 H&H and have it rechambered for a 416 Rem Mag. I'd definitely be money ahead.

Tarawa, could you post the snaps of these rifles must be beautiful.

Monish

I bought one last week as a raffle gun at our upcoming SCI chapter dinner. I bought a .458 win mag in brown laminate. Unfortunately they told me they were all out of the deluxe wood. Seems like for the price, how can you go wrong.

You'd need a complete fresh barrel or bore that one out. A rechamber won't work.

Yeah, I didn't word that quite right. Knew I'd have to get a new barrel or punch out the existing.

Reboreing the origional tube is a good way to go. I've had several done and they work as well as the origional one.

IMO, I'd stick with the 375 without playing around.. It's a great classic round that will do anything you'll need.

I would do that, but already have a 375 H&H so wanting something different.
