So Iv decided In the near future I’d like to get a rifle chambered in 30-06. I had a Winchester 1895 I sold and loved it.
Im currently looking at the Winchester Alaskan
Because I like the fact it come with iron sights.
Can anyone recommend any other brand I should be looking at. It will be my medium game rifle.

Lots of manufacturers chamber in the tried and true '06. Depending on your action and safety preference id recommend atleast laying eyes on options by Ruger, Rem, Sako and Kimber.

When it comes down to it get the one that you like and fits you.

As was mentioned there are quite a few manufactures that chamber the old 06. If you like the Winchester Alaskan then that is what I would get.

Can shoot 55-220 grain bullets. Can hunt mice to moose with a 30.06. Look how long this caliber has withstood the test of time. How many animals have been killed with a 30.06?

There are countless options for finding a 30-06, however, if you like the Alaskan, it should serve you very well. A fine rifle that covers nearly all of north American hunting needs.

I don’t mind spending the money, I don’t plan on buying some budget rifle with a cheap stock.
I want real wood or good quality synthetic.
SAKO is a little above my price range. I’m trying to stay within $1500-$1800

The 30/06 is the single most useful big game caliber ever devised

Agree. Although many have their favorite, Its hard to argue with that. Great bullet selection, good powder capacity and performance, and ammo and rifles are available almost everywhere. There are not many critters on all continents that it is not good for ex DG and the biggest of bears.

We keep a Remington 742 at our property in Georgia. Anyone who comes up and needs a rifle gets to use it. It has see through scope rings so the iron sights still get used. Deadly accurate out to any range we hunt at in georgia

For years I only had an ‘06 in a M1 Garand, I referred to the 30-06 as the Azzhole of rifle cartridges because everyone has one. Grew up listening to everyone talk as if the ‘06 had some mystic ability to take game. I was a member of the 7mm RM cult and couldn’t stand the mention of the ‘06! Fast forward 35 years and I own 5 or 6 of them somehow and even took one to Africa. I can’t argue it is a grand old cartridge that can do anything it is meant to do. Find yourself a nice Pre-64 to enjoy a side of nostalgia along with the main course.
Cheers,
Cody

I like your Alaskan idea. I have a pre 64 made in 55 and the Alaskan is basically identical to it. I like the idea of sight in the iron sights then top it with scope of choice on QD rings. Ultimate travel set up, scope trouble? Just remove it and go old school.
