60 days from today my son, brother and myself will touch down in Johannesburg and embark on our adventure with Limcroma. :). Can’t wait. Henry has all my paperwork for my rifles. Airfare all taken care of thanks to Lori. Taxidermy is sending me my trophy tags for shipping stuff back to them. Shooting a little still waiting for the dang snow to leave then hit it hard both archery and rifle.. what am I missing/forgetting?

Have a great time!

Wysongdog, has everyone made and reviewed "packing lists" and made sure that you are under the weight and bag limits? Did you include power converters? Medications in original containers including Rx numbers and Dr's name. Extra copies of all paperwork.

I have power converters on my list to get still but haven’t gotten them. Thanks for the reminder. My son’s migraine meds are all in the original containers and in his back pack. The one thing I don’t like is my aluminum 3 gun gun case with my guns in it weighs like 75 pounds.. but not sure what to do about that except take 2 cases??

I hadnt thought about it but I too will be there in less than sixty days! Thanks for bringing that to my attention...

First... Congrats on your hunt. It’s getting close! The excitement builds!
Now: Take two cases. There will be three of you to handle the baggage. Also, all of your eggs (rifles) are in one basket (case). If it takes a side trip to Tokyo, all three of you are without your rifles.
You said you’re waiting for the snow to clear so you can go to the range. Don’t discount dry firing in the basement or even just shouldering the rifles and aquiring the target. Also, think about an air rifle in the garage or back yard.

You obviously haven’t been to Baggs Wyoming lol. No range here that isn’t under snow. We’ve still got a foot on the level. Have a range at our house. Have been dry firing some but definately not enough. We need to get on that hard. I hadn’t thought about having all my eggs in one basket with one gun case. Great call. Thank you much.

Yes sir coming quickly. Have daughter’s track every weekend between now and then. Son’s senor activitis graduation... damn I might be busy lol

Warm barrels and safe travels. What are you targeting

Had your immunizations?

Cheers
Tim

Spiral slam. Didn’t think immunizations were necessary for rsa? What’s recommended?

Sounds like fun.

On the range I went over in the middle of May and didn't get to my actual shooting range until May 1 due to the snow and mud. I had all my rounds reloaded but I put a lot of practice rounds down range in a very short time.

You didn't mention it but do you have a importer set up or are you planning on doing it yourself?

Good luck on the hunt.

Good luck in Africa.

Importer?? Can you elaborate a little on that for me?

He is referring to getting your trophies back home. you may choose to just do "dip and pack" of green trophies and skulls for mounting here in the states or having them mounted in RSA and then shipped home. importation is usually best left to professionals that know the rules and customs. Your PH or outfitter may have a recommendation or you can do your research before hand and have one chosen. Remember to have your ammunition in a separate locked case under 11 lbs. Good luck and enjoy your trip

The excitement builds, good luck and shoot straight. Will be watching for your hunt report.

We had Hepatitis A & B, typhoid, and made sure our tetanus boosters were up to date.

Check out the CDC website for recommended and required immunizations ASAP! Probably won’t need yellow fever. Malaria will be a maybe. Typhoid, tetanus, Hep A and B: probably. Get on those quickly if you need them. The Hep are two or three shots spread over a couple months.
Also, highly recommend you purchase travel insurance like Global Rescue or Ripcord. S—t happens!

You’ll need someone to retrieve your trophies from US Customs after they’ve cleared the three agency inspections and then forward them to you or your taxidermist. Since you have a taxidermist sending you tags, he probably has an importer he regularly uses and that SHOULD be on the tags. Inquire.
Check with your outfitter about the Africa end. Ask him who he uses for either dip and pack, then contact them to find out how they handle D&P and costs.

I believe without checking that most of South Africa only recommends a tetanus booster, unless you are hunting on the northern end of the country.

A couple of other things that might be of help to you. Get some Permethrin and treat your clothing with it. Pants, shirts, and socks that you will be wearing as you are hunting. It is a bug repellent and it works. You just spray it on your clothing and let it dry, then it is good for up to around 6 washes. You can find it in the camping aisle in Walmart. Do you have a Walmart in Baggs? It has been a while since I was there. If not and you don't want to travel you can get it on Amazon.

The others have you covered on the importers. There are a couple that are vendors on the site here and then there are a couple of others that are just as good. I used SSI and they handled everything from the time after my trophies hit the skinning shed. They made sure that everything was done and proper. They also kept me informed of what was happening once I left SA and came home. They even took care of all the payments until my trophies hit my taxidermist here in Colorado, then just a couple of wire transfers to them and all was done.

Walmart in Baggs??? Lol nope nearest Walmart is in craig 40 miles away lol. I got the permethrin just haven’t put it on the clothes yet. I will check the tags from North Dakota taxidermy when they get here. They did our stags from New Zealand so they should have their ducks in order. Have to get steroid shot in my elbow this week so I can get back to shooting my bow. Have a torn tendon that is hampering my shooting lol. Letting the wife handle the insurance lol.
