Getting ready to make my reservations to go from the U.S., probably Houston, to South Africa. Has anyone travelled with Emirates airlines lately and what was your opinion of the flight and crew? Thanks.

I looked inr
To flying from australia through dubia, and on to lusaka, with them
They were very helpful and firearm friendly
The thing that stopped me was there the fact that there was no way of buying extra luggage
If l went over the max, it was going to cost 94 aud ,per kilo , per flight
Other than than that ,they were very easy to deal with , and the communication was great

This year will be my fourth trip to Africa with Emirates. Traveled out of SF. Taking firearms is preapproved and checked through to your destinations .The fleet of Aircraft is new . The flight attendants are great looking and helpful . Lay-ed over in Dubai as part of the air fare food was great hotel comfortable . As far as I am concerned they are the best airline to fly to Africa certainly heads and shoulders above SAA.

I've always heard that they are top notch. Business associates of mine fly them and have never uttered an ill word about service or departures and arrivals.

Only flown them once. Everything was great. Would fly them again.

Only problem for me is it adds apx. 2 hours in the cattle car going through Dubai for an East Africa trip.

Thanks guys. Their flight schedule can save me about 8 hours off an already looong travel time.

Great airline. Flew them a lot when I was living in Asia and travelling into Dubai. I would say that Emirates and Singapore are the best two out there. Never flown with firearms with them however. For me, you cant beat Delta's Atlanta to Joburg direct route. Way less chance of things not making it. The only neg is of course the brutal duration of the flight.

@JimT just out of interest how do you save 8 hours by flying usa to dubai to sa? instead of usa to joburg .
My final destination is port Elizabeth. With the parameters I set for myself - no overnight layover and arrive in the morning or early afternoon I would, now that I got my math straight save 5 hours with Emirates. the difference of 34 vs. 29 hours.

And since my outfitter has the same rifle for use that I was going to bring I am not going to mess with firearm permits.

I am actually looking at them for my next safari in 2016. I have heard good things. Their fares were significantly less when the first introduced flights out of DFW. Now they are roughly the same. So now there is no advantage to flying them over Delta.... Delta has pretty much the most direct route ..... get to ATL, then straight shot. No 8 hour layover in Dubai.

I flew Emirates from Houston for a 2012 safari to Mozambique. Then the layover in Dubai was ten hours. I'm flying them again this June and they have gotten the layover in Dubai down to 4 1/2hrs. We arrive Joberg at 6:30am so no need for a layover there and it's easy to make a connecting flight. This route is a little bit longer than Delta or SAA but I don't have to hassle with Atlanta or Washington as the flight out of Houston is direct to Dubai.

If their fares come back down I will definitely give them a try.

I must have booked at the right time. Emirates was actually cheaper than SAA or Delta. I'd rather be lucky than good! lol

Thanks again y'all. My safari is next May so can't make the reservations just yet but I think I will give Emirates a shot.

You might consider Travel with Guns they will work out all of your fire arms Issues

I'll never give any $$$$ to a muslim entity, I don't care how great they are, IMHO.

Emirates are the best airline I have had the pleasure of flying with. Clean ,courteous and good food , I will be using them this May to SA and again in August SA

Thanks again for the feedback y'all.
