I went to SA in 2024 and don’t remember declaring anything but my gun.

I went in April of 2025 and was not required, but looking at the form on the Delta site it asks a couple questions I do not know what to put down like African ID number is that for US citizens or SA citizens and I will not do it over the net, I do not want my Passport number out there but will turn it in when needed

It was indeed Delta that asked for my form. I'd not prefer to tell anyone how much cash is on my person ever again. That being said, I won't volunteer that document in April....

Entering most countries with cash isn’t a problem. It’s if you try to leave with cash that can be issue. If you don’t declare it on entry it can potentially get seized. If you spend it there below whatever country’s limit it’s a non-issue. Unless you are carrying a crazy amount of cash everyone knows a white American landing in Africa is most likely carrying a considerable amount of money. I don’t think you are declaring anything that isn’t common knowledge anyway.

I’ve filled out a lot of declarations to enter countries and filled out visa applications for others. Traveling to South Africa doesn’t concern me. The process to enter and leave the country isn’t much different than a western country. I’ve never received additional scrutiny trying to enter or leave. Cameroon would be a different story.

To clarify, you have declared large amounts on the forms and haven't ever had an issue? And also, have you traveled there since this new system of theirs that some people are reporting (seems like we started seeing people talk about it last fall), if so what was your experience?

I see people on here talk about it, but I have talked to outfitters and they said none of their clients have ever mentioned it to them.

I did some research and I think if you declare $1,200 you get green lined, most of the people I’ve talked to have just ignored it.

Two years ago Eastern sent me the form to fill out before my trip. Last year there was no form but I filled out one on line.

Similarly, I don't carry extremely large sums like some people on here do. But like @Hunt anything said, it seems like the limits are set pretty low.

I do prefer to know about and avoid extra inspection and scrutiny when possible. It generally makes life easier.

I filled them out for my rifles and my wife's camera and equipment. Don't want to be hit with taxes on the return trip for something I already paid taxes on.

Anyhow, I declared an amount that was linked through Delta. I did not declare a large amount. I had no issues after arriving in Johannesburg and clearing customs.
