Hey guys I get this ring around the top off my bullets from the seating die, any tricks to getting rid of it?
I get them on all of the projectiles I use with the 416, 404 and 375
Any help in stopping it would be appreciated,
I use 2 thou under caliber on my case mouth.
Mike

What brand of dies?

I’ve "customised " seating stems for lead projectiles using devcon epoxy. Coat the bullet, ( in a dummy case) with silicone release agent and then put some epoxy on top and press it onto the stem, ensuring it is straight, it is then a perfect fit for that projectile

I might have to try this, I do have bedding compound

Try a light touch with the deburring tool used on the case mouth.

Are you using the seating die to crimp? If so, try a separate crimping die such as the Lee factory crimp die.
No, I am not using a seating die to crimp, I have a separate die for the 404 and the 375 but waiting on one for the 416 Taylor

Think it makes any difference or is it just cosmetic? Small irregularities at the front of a bullet are much less important than imperfections around the base. Besides, it’s pretty much equal all the way around.

Personally, I’d just look for a bullet seating stem that matched the ogive better. “Fix” the problem incorrectly and anything you gain in bullet smoothness will be lost by eccentric bullet runout.

Its fairly common and really does not effect accuracy for most hunting applications. I take emory cloth on a wood dowel or even a dummy round and lightly buff inside of seater.

Hornady offers bullet specific seating stems. If they don’t make one for your bullet you can send them one and they’ll make it for you at not too bad a cost.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
