ZIMBABWE: DALTON & YORK SAFARIS - Chewore South 2025 Lion, Elephant, Buffalo & Hippo

If you compare the cost of these produced videos and what $3k in taxidermy gets you. To your door.

I wish I would have had a video done of my Chewore hunt with D&Y

I was fortunate enough to have someone bring back my 2 gun cases and messenger bag made from my wife’s Buffalo hide a few weeks ago.

The cost to get them shipped to my door would be close enough to the video cost to make the decision an easy one for me.

As taxidermy and shipping costs continue to climb. These video production companies stock will continue to rise.

That was a great experience, congrats !

And thanks for sharing.

I agree. Taxidermy along with shipping costs have skyrocketed. We set up a big TV in our hunting lodge and have our videos and pictures on a thumb drive playing on a loop the whole time we’re there. Great alternative to traditional taxidermy.

Having gun cases and bags made is another great alternative. We had have stuff made out of elephant and buffalo. Finally got smart and left gun cases with D&Y so we don’t have to carry them back and forth. Saves a ton of room.

great report. congrats on the successful hunt.

What kind of injury did you finally have?
Did an Xray when I got home and there was no fracture. I’m sure there’s a ligamentous but haven’t made time to do a MRI. Over a month out and I can walk just fine but still can’t walk down stairs normally. I think these things take a long time to get back to 100%

Good luck getting that injury taken care of.
I feel for you.
Congratulations on a very successful safari.

Excellent report, great photos! Looks like you had an amazing hunt. One question, was it tough leaving your 404 at home?

Thanks 375 Ruger! Good to hear from you. Yes, one of the hardest parts of any hunts is leaving rifles behind. I love the 404 for sure. But already had 375 loaded up, had a recent 4457 and everyone else going with me was taking 375s so made it easy if we had an ammo issue.

Congrats on a wonderful safari! Well done on the shooting as well!

It was 40 or 50 years ago that I read of the old time elephant hunters. They would sell their ivory to pay for the next hunt. A few years ago I found a modern example of that in ZImbabwe. They PH told me that up to a couple years prior, Chinese elephant hunters would shoot three elephants each. They would have the tusks exported to China where those would be sold to fund their next hunt.

We hunters today cannot sell ivory tusks as above. We, or at least me, can take an alternative route. Funding a professional video of my hunt(s) will provide a lasting memory of me for family and friends long after I am six feet under. The cost is comparable to having "trophies" permitted and shipped from Africa to the USA.

Oh, thanks to @Razorback , @towserthemouser , many others, @DALTON & YORK SAFARIS , and the videographer, Vaughan Vosloo of @Untamed for providing the opportunity of sharing in these outstanding African hunts!

PS: If anyone thinks making great hunting videos is easy work, I invite you to try it. I've shot and edited a few very short videos and shared them on YouTube. It is a lot if work to produce anything others will want to watch!

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

WOW, what an amazing safari, congratulations!!!

Sorry for your injury. Get healed soon.

Enjoyed your write up.

Congrats on the epic Safari. Well done! How was the weather in that part of Zim in July?

Weather was about perfect. Upper 30s to mid 40s in the morning. Mid 70s to low 80s in the mid afternoon. Cooling off quickly after the sun went down.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
