Just a fun campfire thread.

I finally pulled the trigger on a firearm I’ve been itching after for a long time. S&W Model 57 8 3/8” in 41 Rem Mag. Love the whole Bill Jordan / Elmer Keith lore…love big Smiths…and love watching Hickok45 pull out his long-barreled 29 in 44 mag so I wanted something similar with a twist.

Curious what firearm additions have been in your mind’s eye lately?

My white whale of a rifle would be a left handed model 70 chambered in 7mm-08. If there are any in existence they would have come from the custom shop, as the only left handed short action rifles Winchester “mass produced” were the WSMs.

I had previously found a LH Model 70 from the custom shop that was chambered in 458 Win and was stainless and in a black synthetic stock. Based on my research that may have been a one of one type rifle. I used that rifle in 2024 to take a buffalo in Zimbawe, so I know that if I look long and hard enough, I maybe able to find that 7mm-08, one day…….

Love my Mod 57 although in a 4". It is the slickest, beautiful beast in my handgun stable. Single action trigger is feather lite. I just bought a bunch of .41 Special brass to load up to shoot. Its a special day at the range when I take it out for a spin.
My inspiration was "The Evil That Men Do". Great Elmer Keith lore as well.

Waited for years to find a nice custom Mauser in 270 win. Happened across a good deal on a Haugh custom but the stock was just a bit too short and there was zero engraving. I decided to get it restocked and a bit of engraving to get the exact hunting rifle I always wanted. Just got it back about a month ago.

My "white wales" are a pair of double rifles. Ever since I attended my first double rifle shoot, I have wanted an 8-bore double and a 577 NE double.

A little while back I successfully acquired a W.J. Jeffery 8-bore double rifle. Im not sure if I will ever get my hands on a 577 but I still dream of one!

Well, it WAS a Heym Model 89B boxlock ejector chambered in .600 Nitro Express. But due to the lack of currently manufactured factory ammunition for this caliber, I’ve decided to set my sights upon a John Rigby & Co. Shikari boxlock ejector chambered in .500 Nitro Express 3”.

I’d also really like a Ryan Breeding .505 Gibbs built on a Granite Mountain Arms African Magnum Mauser action with a 4+1 magazine capacity and a 24” barrel.

Purely tasteful choices, but it would be champagne tastes on a beer budget as far as my involvement.

I want that same gun but with a 4 inch bbl.

My white whale is a small bore Dickson round body shotgun.

But the one I’ll have made if I win the lottery is a Rigby with my once in a lifetime dog of that name engraved on it. He was the best hunting dog I’ll ever have and I wish I could honor him someday.

This was a white whale for me...Grover #5 with carved ivory grips by Persinger.

Another one (actually I've owned 2 of them) is the Nighthawk custom Browning Hi-Power...great gun with some of the best lines ever built. Browning was a genius. Here it is with a Nighthawk 10mm carry 1911.

So many rifle examples but here was a great find...Alex Henry with the original seal rifle barrel and a factory replacement barrel. Cool gun.

I love competition shotguns and I'm lucky to have an Alftermann single and double for trap. There are only 23 doubles ever built.

That is one fine looking improved #5. I have always had a fascination with Grover’s guns and collected quite a few of them over the years, never had a #5 with carved ivories though, there’s just something classic cool about them on a blued gun. I briefly had a nickel single army with brand engraving and carved ivory stocks, think it’s the only gun I ever personally owned with them.

I saw on FB a while back that Bailey Bradshaw is developing a lever action modeled after the Savage 99 but able to be offered in true big bore calibers. That - and the funds to afford one - are my true white whales.

More realistically? A handful of bucket list levers. Lately I have been looking more for a Winchester 71 or a newer 86 in .45-90.
