Want To Buy Winchester Model 70 Pre 64 in 375 H&H

This is my pre-‘64 .300 H&H Mag. Classic features, CRF, open trigger design, 4+1 capacity, transformed into a modern all weather workhorse. A 75 year old rifle that looks like new and shoots sub-moa. This is the hidden beauty of a “ruined” pre-‘64… and again for less than the price of a new Portugal gun.View attachment 726522
nicely done! looks great and cool project!

FWIW, the Scheel's store in The Colony, TX has two Pre-64's in 375H&H in their preowned section. If memory serves, they are priced either side of $2500 or so.
Thanks for the tip! just called them and they have them priced at $4500 and $6000. A little more than im wanting to spend on a shooter, but again thanks for the info

@Flanders357 above is an example of a shooter that has zero collectors value.

Stock isn’t original, has been cut and has a replacement pad, barrel band is aftermarket, receiver is drilled for the side mount, it’s missing the rear sight. Bolt handle and trigger guard are wrong. Those are some things that jump out right away, and additional photos might reveal some other things.

Additionally a huge red flag is the New Member posting this this in reply to your wanted ad

Yeah good call on all of those. I ended up finding a pre 64 earlier today that is all original minus original but pad and missing the front hood. In really good shape for $1800. I think it was a good value for what I’m looking for and wanting to do

It's from 1998, I always thought it was called "pre64", otherwise what would its exact name be?

People often refer to those "Classic" model 70s as Pre-64s-style actions, which is just a reference to the control feed action. One of the major reasons the pre-64's are sought after is because of the control feed action. In 1964, in a cost saving measure they switched them to a push feed action. They made other cost saving measures in 1964 as well with stock checkering, etc.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the post 64 70,s because I don't own any. But at some point they started selling "Classic" Model 70s, which went back to using the pre-64 style action, which is what people marketing them are referring to. But a pre-64 "style" action is not the same thing as an actual pre-64 action (with a serial number before 581471) from a value standpoint.

I will say as a collector that's often searching for pre-64's it's super annoying when people list current production or more recent production Model 70s as pre-64, because it has the pre-64 STYLE action. Not the same thing...

From what I hear, the current production Model 70s are very well made control feed actions. While the "Classics" were introduced in the 90's as a control-feed option, I believe all current production 70's are control-feed.

The importance of that is certainly a long contested debate not worth getting into. I think most people think for a non-dangerous game situation, the benefit of control-feed over push feed is not really relevant. To each their own...

I'm just as annoyed as you with the people that list current production or "Pre64 Style" guns as Pre64. It takes 100x more time to go through all the guns that aren't actually Pre 1964 manufactured guns. That and gas vehicle driver's who pull up to the only diesel pump are two of my pet peeves.

Like you, I have a pile of Pre-64's. In the last few months I've sold off a Transition .220 Swift, .257 Roberts and Super Grade 22 Hornet, and a post war 270, 264WM, 300H&H and Super Grade 30-06. I keep debating selling off several others since I have more than I can fit in my Pre-64 Safe

I'm guessing a mod pulled it for being Spam. The poster only has a few minutes to edit/delete a post and my "review" was a good while after their initial post. There were a lot of things with that gun that didn't "look right" but I couldn't see clearly enough in the photos to 100% call out, where as all the others were clear as day.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
