Uganda’s hunting is basically finished up. The bulk of hunting is January through April. It shouldn’t affect any hunts.

It’s not the first time. It never had impact on hunting in past. Guys that go to Uganda aren’t going for a general hunt plus it’s a very small hunting industry there.

I’m giving serious thought to jumping in with a hunt to northern Uganda Feb or March, but can see a significant outbreak, one that lasted, causing concern around my home. The misses is a nurse, tiring of management the last several years and now working in her nurse practictioner doctorate. She gets a bit concerned by exotic infectious diseases. Basically any hemorrhagic fever…so shhhh on the Ebola for a bit and fingers crossed not many souls suffer and the outbreak ends quickly.

Hate to see this again. I believe the last outbreak of Ebola in Uganda was in October, 2022 while I was there hunting. We got diverted going home to arrive in Atlanta so that we could be screened. Immigration was waiting for us. It took all of about 60 seconds to clear and we were back on our way.

Ebola is going to be around (and around and around) for a very long time. Kills fast though so sorta stops itself - or has in the past. It sill haunts the hell out of people though. My dad used to service the Xerox machines at the monkey house in Reston before the Ebola outbreak there (read the Hot Zone by Preston). I visited a lady in an adjoining building 15 years after that event and she was still freaked out.

One of the reasons outbreaks stopped quickly in recent years is that there was active, consistent boots-on-the-ground monitoring and they were caught early. Unfortunately with the elimination of USAID funding for these monitoring programs dried up. There was no doubt a lot of bathwater at USAID -- but there were also some babies that got thrown out with it.

The Department’s coordination cell worked closely to update the Department’s travel advisories to reflect circumstances on the ground and provide American citizens with travel risk information and guidance. The Department also worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on issuing the May 18, 2026 Title 42 order prohibiting travel to the United States for foreign nationals who have visited the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan within the last 21 days. The Department of State is also working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on implementing this order and any future CDC quarantine and isolation guidance world-wide. We are also working closely with CDC and the U.S. military on potential repatriation of affected Americans, based on assessed exposure and health needs.

Beat me to it....only way it was stopped....it does not naturally run its course by running out of people to infect/kill....its by tracking and isolation and treatment...unfortunately at the moment there is no medecine for this variant unlike the strain that kicked off in West Africa during the last major outbreak...as you said USAID had laboratories etc in these countries studying these diseases....unfortunately no more
