Rifle Sling Recommendation

Boonie Packer safari sling. I like having the rifle in front and ready to go. It balances out my pack and makes it easier to get through the brush. Gotta watch the muzzle though. I mostly hunt by myself so it’s usually not a concern.

I like to carry my rifle up front so it's accessible. I use either an Edgar Sherman, Blue Force Gear Vicker's, or Ferro Concepts sling. Lightweight, simple slings are my favorite. I use QD sling swivels on the sides of the rifle. If I'm not carrying it that way I'll just attach the rifle to my pack.

Anyone have any experience with the Ultimate Rifle Sling?

My first choice for a hunting sling is the Dick Murray A-1. The genius of it lies in it's simplicity. Leather looks the part for a hunting rifle and it keeps on my shoulder nicely. A quick wrap around my forearm gives added support for shooting offhand.

I have not used a Trader Keith sling, but I understand they are quite good and really look the part for a traditional African Safari. If you are looking for a more modern tactical sling that's made specifically for real world (and yes tactical) shooting, the Vickers Sling from Blue Force Gear is top notch. It may not look the part, but it works very well.
Murray Custom Leather is nearly always the answer if they make the product you have in mind. All of Dick's stuff is top notch, and he is also a tremendously nice guy.

I have it.
Love it for normal hunts involving a lot of walking or climbing. I prefer it to leather and I like using it backpack style.

However, it sucks in thorns. The rubber is just soft enough to get punctured and caught up on them. After the first day in S Africa, I took it off.

I want to start practising off-hand shooting (375HH). no sticks or supports. I know some slings are geared more for carry than shooting and am looking for a sling that is designed primarily for shooting. Anyone have any recommendations. Thanks
I have a Trader Keith canvas sling on my .458 and like it, but I have been told that if a shooting sling is your primary concern, the Ching Sling is the best. You might want to look into that one.

I’m a fan of the Galco Ching Sling.
I have one on my Ruger American 30-06. It helps immensely if you don’t have a rest of any sort. It is stiff when new and requires quite a bit of time to break in.

I have two slings from Slogan Outdoors. They are made from a similar (same?) rubber material. I like them, but there is a bounce to them when carrying. Some people don't like that. I use the Slogan sling in foul weather or wet/muddy conditions. I use the Murray Leather A-1 in good conditions.

I have ordered an Edgar Sherman ESD Padded sling, thanks to your post.
I saw one at a high end gun shop, the owner raved about it & it was perfect for what I was looking for, but in the wrong color.
I remember on my first safari, my old sling was the most painful thing I experienced, just rubbed me raw. I hope this is the solution. Thank you for your input.

I’ve just made myself a sling, bit of an experiment to be honest. First mistake I made was using the wrong dye, came out a reddish colour instead of the dark burgundy I had wanted. It’s fairly adjustable, possibly too complex. I’ll try to get a photo tomorrow, currently 41.7*C here, and it’s in the shed

Have a look at Brownell LATIGO Sling.
Great for offhand shooting, but it’s too narrow for all day carrying of heavy rifle. For that, the wider canvas slings are hard to beat.

It’s a combination of different styles made to be adjustable as either a safari sling or an on shoulder sling. I made it to suit my 8x68S as a walk around deer rifle

Boonie Packer Safari Sling. I use the green and black woven material one. Slip it over your shoulder and across your back down to the butt of your rifle. You don't have to remove it to shoot and it supports your rifle while walking.

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
