I want to start practising off-hand shooting (375HH). no sticks or supports. I know some slings are geared more for carry than shooting and am looking for a sling that is designed primarily for shooting. Anyone have any recommendations. Thanks

I use a canvas strap for most of the rifles I take to Africa, it works far better for aiding in off hand shooting than I would have ever guessed before trying it. I think the bit of give in the fabric helps. But I have used a standard A1 strap from Murry leather for a long time and works great. Get one of each and try them both.

I like the sling from Trader Keith. Go take a look . I have 2 of them and they work and look GREAT.

Gokey and Tom Beckbe also have nice canvas slings

Agreed! All that Trader Keith carries is very functional!

Forgot mine on a last minute trip and regretted it the whole time... any sling will do
Good point but what sling do you use?

The op is looking for a recommendation.

I have a few from plain leather strap to plastic fantastic.

I like the idea of the Canvas traditional style that has been mentioned but I also like leather.

I just have a thing about old stuff . Somehow incorporating the "Traditional" old style hunting and Classic gear with good glass and comfortable transport.

You will be carrying your rifle more than you will shoot it. I'd get the most comfortable sling and then practice "hasty sling" method with it.

I really like the Els sling below from @African Sporting Creations .

Best sling I have found. Uk company and had parent. Can buy from their eBay store.

Has a strap that goes around and prevents rifle from sliding off shoulder with carry. Have leather and canvas options. Has quick detach then can transition to shot in seconds.

Does your rifle have a barrel-band or a sling stud in the fore end? Its not a good idea for accuracy to put tension on the barrel.

There are numerous good quality canvas or leather slings out there

My personal opinion is still away from his lungs when you’re hunting in Africa specially, within your game, I was gonna do is get caught on brushes and treason that can cause your trophy or your life

I have changed out all my slings on my hunting rifles to simple nylon slings similar to a military one.

I can leave them long where I can slip them over my shoulder to pack my rifle or I can tighten them up to where they don't cause any problems, in just seconds.

My first choice for a hunting sling is the Dick Murray A-1. The genius of it lies in it's simplicity. Leather looks the part for a hunting rifle and it keeps on my shoulder nicely. A quick wrap around my forearm gives added support for shooting offhand.

I have not used a Trader Keith sling, but I understand they are quite good and really look the part for a traditional African Safari. If you are looking for a more modern tactical sling that's made specifically for real world (and yes tactical) shooting, the Vickers Sling from Blue Force Gear is top notch. It may not look the part, but it works very well.

Good call on Vickers! I have those on all my tactical rifles, and have used on bolt actions also.

Takes some getting used to, but they are a real step up when it comes to support. Biggest issue is getting over having a "tactical" sling on an African safari rifle. Some would cry blasphemy just seeing it. IMO - if it works for you, go for it.

Can we have that in a different english?

Offhand will be close....375 H&H.. you gonna have to put some real effort in to get it shooting cockeyed in that cenario...

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
