Offhand will be close....375 H&H.. you gonna have to put some real effort in to get it shooting cockeyed in that cenario...

I have tested this at the range, with and without sling tensioned in a Hasty Sling, on and off sticks at 100 yards.

.35 Whelen 1912 Steyer M98
.375 H&H Whitworth M98
. 416 Rigby Ruger RSM
.458 Win Mag Whitworth M98
.458 Lott Ruger RSM

Conclusion:

Shoot in the field as same method as zero for your rifle.
Maintain Moderate and similar tension on the barrel and your arm in the sling.
With practice you can make it work.

Point of Impact is fairly consistent, off sticks or offhand or kneeling.

I have tested this method to 100 yards with the above listed rifles.
Depending on your rifle results may vary but just test it.

Regarding slings, I use Mil-Spec 1/14” leather slings,
Montana Slings 1/4”, and my favorite
Galco Full Grain Leather 1 1/4” sling, fully finished.

Trader Keith’s 2” canvas slings are my next project.

Good Luck with practice shooting with slings.

Once getting into shooting with a Hasty Sling, realized field marksmanship is attainable ,for me, at 100 yards, just need a LOT, more practice for 200 yard shots.

Let us be clear: Offhand, a sling is but a hands free device.

Supported: Sticks, your knee, prone using the earth, etc. etc., now a sling can help.

Looping up is nice if you have time.

More often than not, I use a 1 1/4" Super Sling, made by The Outdoor Connection on my rifles.


It is a simple, inexpensive, quickly adjustable sling, that lends itself to the "hasty" method.



I have several, but the dark brown one is my favorite.

Andy Langlois is a good friend of mine. He does really nice work. He designed the Rhodesian sling to work like the Ching Sling but without the need for a third sling stud on your stock.

I have one and you can really lock the rifle down tight.

I want to start practising off-hand shooting (375HH). no sticks or supports. I know some slings are geared more for carry than shooting and am looking for a sling that is designed primarily for shooting. Anyone have any recommendations. Thanks

Lookup the Galco Safari Chin Sling. It's split in middle which makes it rest on the shoulder without slipping and extremely comfortable. Then you can put your hand though the split pull elbow back into the leather strap and have a hasty sling. All leather too and hopefully still made in USA.

I like and use the same Murray sling as @BeeMaa it works quite well in my opinion, and adjusts super quick.

I use one of these all over the US when i'm doing more hiking than hunting. Mostly in the PNW.
It's got some stretch and i use it to strap right over my pack when i'm out on a 5-7 day living out of a backpack hunt.

If you drop the pack, it also is nice in that it loops over both shoulders and rides on your back vertically.
Also, it doesn't slip or slide off like leather or nylon. I kinda like that it has grip... others don't.
It's not going to look good on a wood stocked gun if you're going for looks.

I have one of these on my Ruger American in 30-06. It is a great aid for off hand shots.

I second the use of Slogan Outdoors Rubber Rifle Slings. Their shorter version works well on rifles that have both sling studs in / on the stock. Their Long Magnum version works best on rifles with the front stud on the barrel. Take a look at this website. https://www.sloganoutdoors.com/slings
