Replacing this Old Hat

You have inspired me. This is a waxed canvas boonie that I must have.

Here you go Wildwillalaska, this might remind you of your youth on a TX spread.
I think I’m in 8th grade here…about 1979. I never killed anything off this filly’s back, but I could shoot off of her (30-30 here).

In 8th grade I rode a skateboard and had a goofey haircut...sigh.

Way cool and way less-redneck than my youth.

I can’t recall how old I am here, think somewhere around 3rd or 4th grade. I got smoked color quarter horse when I was 11, and this mean pony had moved along, so had to be before that. And don’t remember these silly chaps with matching vest, seems like something my mother would have posed me in. Certainly not cool enough to shoot horseback.

Funny, I wear a KUIU cap every day and have them in different colors too. However, for hunting and casual occasions, I’ll wear an outback hat or a South African Rogue hat.

I got you right here. I probably shouldn’t be wearing this since I traded off my one Rigby but then again maybe I should just use this as motivation to buy another. Either way, this hat is perfect. View attachment 757184
We appreciate the enthusiasm for the brand, whether it is for a hat or a gun - thank you!

This new Rigby hat is a good option. It provides good sun protection while also not being too hot due to it being made from cotton canvas:

Excitement for a monumental level hunt for me is all but overwhelming as the date closes in. And likely late for the moment, my mind shifted to a proper hat for the occasion.

I see all these cool action and adventure photos folks share, and of course trophy pics, with cool hats and I want that. I just can’t ever seem to sort what feels right for me, and when I do, then it looks funny.

I don’t often wear hats much any more despite growing up wearing a cowboy hat about 90% of the time outdoors. Looking back through my photos of hunts and adventures the last almost decade, I’m wearing basically the same damned hat, just in a couple different colors.

So I need to replace this old hat…

When Kuiu discontinued the low crown Pro hat, I bought 30 of them. I think I have enough to last me until I die.

Same wore a cowboy hat from about 12-35. Have not really owned one or wore one in about 18 years.

Will- with the fancy orange binos you'll be using, my vote is for a color matching 'pimp' hat with a big ostrich feather!! LOL Good luck and have fun!

My personal favorite boonie hat is from Koolibar.

I have four of them, they have sales a couple of times a year.

Not a hunting company but the hats are tough.

150 Quid for a boonie from Rigby is absolutely nuts.

My other go to sun hat is from Proper Tactical it is called a Wide Boonie, neither Tru-Spec nor Propper make a wide boonie anymore.

Akubrah Territory was my go to hat when I lived in Australia. Good looking, but I prefer the boonie over an actual cowboy hat in 2026.

Another good option, felt and made in America!

What the hell Franz? Holding out on me. I mean you were almost like my Safari tailor in Nashville, sold me on a pair of shoes, sold me on a pair of shorts, even a pair of pants, then that shirt yours wearing too. Never showed me a hat.

Shameful.

Let me help you with his reply. :ROFLMAO:

Ha! I hadn’t tried it yet for myself so I couldn’t give an honest review until after my trip.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
