I have a 416 Taylor being built currently and am debating what bullets to use. I do not know that this rifle will ever make it to Africa so it’s primary uses are likely to be black bears, elk and just shooting for fun.

I’m currently leaning towards either the 350 tsx, 370 woodleigh SS or the 350 mag tip but am open to any suggestions from those who have been down this road already

I don't have a Taylor, but do have 416 Rugers and Remingtons. Several very good 416 bullets, and in my opinion the 350 TSX is definitely one of them. I would also look at the 325 grain CEB Maximus and Hammer Stone Hammer. Hammer and Barnes also offer 300 grain versions. Also the 350 Swift A-Frame.

Lots of bullets to experiment with.

My 416 T shot 350 and 400gr TSX very well. Even with the long 400gr bullet I was able to get 2400+ fps easily without any pressure problems (off the top of my head, I think the load was 2454fps)…

I tried 400g TSX and they were too long for my mag. I currently shot 400g Hornady DGX and Swift A frame

400Gr Barnes TSX

I would suggest the North Fork 370 grain bullets, especially in the Taylor. These give outstanding performance on game. I have used these bullets in my 416 Rigby and plan on using them in my 416 Taylor when it is complete.

Nice- what powder did you use?

I bought, when still available, a good batch of GSC 255 gr that go at 3200 fps fly nice and flat to 300 y, BC is just .24 but this is still plenty of energy for anything in North America.
I think GS-custom US went down due to business issues of Gerard's, around 2017, not sure if there are any similar weight drive band bullets around from other makes.
I have plenty of loads with 350 gr TTSX and Speer and 400 gr , but for smaller game the fast bullets are good.

I’d have to go back and confirm old notes… but I think I used IMR 4064… that’s my starting powder for most rifles if I can find load data for it … and I’m pretty sure there is a 4064 reference in Ken Waters pet loads for the 416 Taylor..

74.0 of IMR 4320 provides about the same data as Varget below using 400s (but I haven't tested its accuracy on the Chatfield-Taylor. I think the 350 TTSX would work well in the US for your purposes (and I see they were getting 2500ish fps out of it. A little faster, a little flatter, but you may just wish to consider pleasant-shooting 400 gr NPs at the factory V of 2,350 fps. (Cranking it up to 2,450 was for elephant and even 2,550 is possible, but punishing in most rifles! It's higher pressure than the Rigby, et. al. so that translates into more felt recoil. ) IMR are my favorite plowders, but there are typically better choices nowadays, especially for larger cases.) 'Did extensive handloading/testing when I got mine years back. In the end, Varget was selected (<1" groups for the best DG hunting bullets: Swift A-Frame and Barnes Banded Solids (the solids printed the same but went 10 fps faster using the same load.) The Nos PT (400s) shot Mickey Mouse groups-super accurate, but I decided to go w/ the A-Frames for Africa.) The 1st load using the 300 gr wasn't my load, and I saw some others that yielded 2,650 fps (which is more like it for a 100 gr lighter bullet.) If you're looking for max. velocity in the (458 WM) case, using the more dense dual-bases like A-A, Ramshot, Western (all the same co.) and TAC/Xterminator/AA-2XXX series are all exceedingly similar. Though I managed to wring 2,500+ fps using TAC, it was pretty brutal to shoot and not quite as accurate, so 'went back to Varget. My custom M70 is 21" or 22", 11 lbs magnaported w/ 2 Hg reducers in the stock. GL!

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
