Practicing with a small bore

It wont since OP still needs to buy the rifle/ammo/optics(?) Etc. Itd take a lot of rounds to break even and .30-06 is not terribly cheap to shoot anymore.

.223 is the best choice for a centerfire training rifle if you can find one that matches. Otherwise, snap caps and dry firing are probably as good as anything.
The only way to make this cost effective AND maintains the same fit and feel of the big gun is to have a rifle with interchangeable barrels. Another thing to consider is the feel of the trigger will be identical.

My wife and I enjoy using our 22lr kit on the R8 to keep the varmint population at bay while maintaining the same feel as our larger hunting cartridges. I know @One Day... does the same using a 223REM barrel on his R8 that wears a 458LOTT on safari.

Having completely separate rifles will get it close, but not identical. Either way will involve a significant monetary investment, but if you want live fire practice it’s the way to go.

My father always told me to practice with the gun you are going to hunt with. If you just want to hone your basic rifle shooting form, trigger control and gun mounting shoot a 22 for honing your form. It has served me well for 60 years. Just one old hunters opinion.

I’ve bought my first large bore rifle, a Belgian browning 458 win mag. I love shooting it and practice several times a week off of viper flex sticks. My problem is I don’t reload and I’m going to go bankrupt shooting factory loads. I was considering buying a Belgian browning 30-06 to practice with since if I’m correct it users the same FN Mauser action. Is this a stupid idea? Thanks for any constructive feedback.
Good idea

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
