Ooooh this is a great post. I am now determined to now make one for myself. I will post progress pics
The Stukeys, if I remember right, are either milled down or sleeved to get precision tolerance on the fit from the legs to the top. The design is cheap, 3 legs and a reinforced top, the execution is not. It’s the precision tolerance that makes it such a sturdy bench, and machine time is expensive. There is essentially 0 slop in the stukey bench. You can build one of the same design yourself for about $500 worth of materials (to get exact same, not “close enough”)$335 for the seat from them, $59 from a music store for the same seat???

I was referring to the seat, not the bench, hence why I said seat in my post. I have one of those seats that I use with my bench, I bought it from a musical supply store, I think they are drummers seatsThe Stukeys, if I remember right, are either milled down or sleeved to get precision tolerance on the fit from the legs to the top. If youre into extreme accuracy with a portable bench, I really don’t think there’s any other one you can buy that even comes close. The price point isn’t for everyone though, certainly above my salary unless I give up other things I don’t want to give up, but they are incredible benches.
I knew what you meant, but the seat isn’t just a music store special either. It’s a special order to his specifications, with higher quality materials than the sub $100 ones you’ll find at some music stores. Out of the whole setup though I agree the seat is the place to save money on without hurting quality by too much.I was referring to the seat, not the bench, hence why I said seat in my post. @Mark A Ouellette has a great standing bench he built. From what I can see, it seems sturdy. I hope he reads this post.
That's a nice looking double, what is it?The OP is looking for a portable bench rest rather than a portable standing rest pictured below.

I bought a batch of surveyor tripods off Facebook Marketplace... Cheaper by the half-dozen!

Standing bench above is a surveyor tripod with a flat top I robbed from a MTM brand rest.
The MTM tridpod was a little flimsy. The surveyor tripod is not!

Standing bench used in video of shooting the Montana TSAVO prototype in .375 H&H
Below is a photo for reference. I need to build one of these for my backyard shooting range.

This is where my mind went. I have a couple variations of these that collapse down for transport but set up quickly. I use mine for prairie dogs the most, other times as a portable field setup for sighting in or tuning up rifles at hunting properties where we don't have a defined shooting range.Cabela's Deluxe Shooting Bench
Goes up and comes down very fast and easy by pulling some retained pins. Folds close to flat and stores away nicely. Decent price. About 37lbs.
