Was just thinking about our newly prohibited firearms in Canada. All licensed gun owners received a note by E-mail to tell the Gvt. what we have in our safes & if we had prohibited firearms that are on their list, that we "MAY" receive compensation once they are "turned in". I went through all 52 pages of newly prohibited firearms to check against what I have. I was quite surprised that none of my bolt actioned hunting rifles were on the list - BUT! What I did find is a list of 5 different models of WEATHERBY MARK 5 (bolt actioned) RIFLES on this list. Here, they are pretty close to $3,000.00 retail. I don't know what they are State's side, but will be less, of course.
What concerns me, is residents of the USA coming to Canada for hunting purposes. Bear season opens in a few months here. I would advise against coming up here with a Weatherby Mark 5 rifle. It may be seized at the border or at the airport after you land in Vancouver or Prince George(also an international airport now).
Word to the wise.
This is something you should check into before booking or heading out on your hunt.
Found this on googleAI. It appears AI didn't know they were now prohibited. LOTS of people don't know this. The listings I observed, are spread over 2 or 3 pages. The first one was the Mark 5 Fibermark.
I was confused so re-read those descriptions several times to be sure, because the government promised no hunting rifles were prohibited. Well, we all know how much we can trust the government.
Note one description below even states "Mark V Hunter". Looks like the gubermit lied again. Sighhhhhh.
Because they did not specifically note .378 and .460 WTBY's being prohibited, ALL Mark 5's are now prohibs.
"

$1,900 CAD to over $4,600 CAD, depending on the model, configuration, and retailer. Popular models like the Mark V Hunter start around $1,900–$2,000, while specialized, lightweight, or carbon-fiber models (Backcountry 2.0, Apex, Ti) are typically priced between $2,500 and $4,600.

Do you have a link for the list? I’ve got to drive through your beautiful country in a few months.

I haven't received an email from the govt. I guess they are "asking" for that information? I thought the long gun registry went out the window a long time ago. So what you're saying is five "models" (calibers?) of Weatherby Mark 5 rifles suddenly made the leap from "long gun" right to "prohibited firearm" and bypassed the "restricted firearm" classification? Wierd. I haven't paid much attention to the last dumb round of poorly thought out gun legislation because I don't own any restricted weapons and my long guns are definitely mild enough to be unaffected. Can you give us some specifics about those outlawed Weatherby rifles? Why are they being banned? Too large a magazine? Too much firepower (yeah, I read all the time about nutjobs shooting up schools with $20K 500 Nitro Express double rifles).

I picked up a copy. Should make for a fanciful diversion. It’s not like anyone would actually believe this stuff!

Ontario Hunter - I will try to find the list. EVERYONE with a Possession and Acquisition License should have received the note from the Fed. Gvt. a couple weeks ago. Everyone I know with a PAL received it.
I will try to find it again. It was not easy - quite convoluted to get the actual list & will post here when I do.
No calibres were noted, as I indicated - or thought I did. They just listed Weatherby Mark 5 then the model.

It’s models that were offered in 460 weatherby, 460 weatherby exceeds 10000 joules

I just searched my email, and I did not receive one from the RCMP.

……checking the validity of my PAL……

…….whew!

Wait, now I feel like the guy who didn’t get invited to the class party. What gives here?!?

You and I know they are referring to guns that were chambered in 460 WTBY- BUT- that calibre, as in guns of that calibre are not listed in their list. Only makes and models.
No calibre was noted - but those models (WTBY) all were. The local RCMP or customs will only have a list of the make and model = prohibited, just the same as they only know that if an air rifle is over 500fps, it's a firearm. They do not know that a .177 air rifle can be over 500fps with light pellets, yet still not a firearm. It must also develop 4.2fpe with THAT pellet. That law says must develop over 500fps AND 4.2FPE. At breakfast last Wed. I asked a couple retired RCMP members about that very law. They did not know about the FPE requirement & each of them were on the ERT (Swat) squads.

Particulars, they do not know - just broad lists of makes and models in "the book of words".
Their initial bill also listed ALL Ruger #1's because someone had one re-barreled to .460 WTBY (that was registered back in the long gun registry the RCMP was ordered to dispose of(but didn't). The calibre was not noted, just Ruger #1's. An 1878 Westley Richards Farquarson was also listed. Go figure. I did not see either the Ruger #1 or the antique single shot in the new listings, but might have missed them.

Here's a list I got from Google. It does list guns producing over 10,000joules, but does not list the WTBY's in those following. They were, however in the 52 pages from the RCMP data base.
The Benneli pump 12 bores are also listed, for some strange reason.
The reason for so many previously prohibited firearms (1978/9) being listed as the 2 stupid females who are the government's advisory panel on guns are placated by numbers. Thus the rocket launchers, SMG's & etc.

I think we’re talking past each other , the weatherby models that are listed are listed because they were offered in 460wtby to my understanding it doesn’t matter what caliber they are in all of that model is banned which would make your warning to our southern neighbours very appropriate as I’m sure some of those gentleman have those models in other calibers. I myself had one in 340 weatherby for a time.

You are right. I would be hesitant to bring one across the border until these "things" are sorted out. Whether that "sorting out" will happen or not, is the question.
Seems to me I saw some rifles in .338 Lapua mentioned as well, could be mistaken.

LOL (if that action is possible now) quite apprehensive. Their initial thought was to search individual firearms owner's house on PEI, but the Island RCMP told them to go pound sand. They gvt. noted there were only 6,500 PAL holders on the island, so should have been easy. The gvt. was also going to do a "risk" annalysis from what happened there. They wanted to see what percentage of armed conflict they could assess to the rest of the country, as they noted, that PEI was a strong LIBERAL holding. Ontario, Man., Sask, Alberta and BC have way over 300,000 PAL holders each. Alberta, Sask., Manitoba, N.B. and the Yukon have said their police will not participate in any seizure of legally purchased private property.
This is likely why the Gvt. has dropped the door to door confiscation plan and has attempted to make it voluntary, until this coming Oct.30, the end of the amnesty.
For those who don't know, they tried a pilot confiscation on Cape Breton Island. They expected over 200 prohibs, based upon previously registered restricted firearms. They received 25, 6 of which were a widow's husbands guns she wanted to get rid of. She was 1 of 16 people offering up guns. So, they obtained 19 prohibs. out of an expected 200. One of the fellows who turned in 2 lowers and one upper was told he'd receive approximately $2,000 for his gun and lower. They paid him $500.00 & there is no recourse nor appeal. The gvt. made a point of saying, you MAY be paid in the "Buy Back Program". I don't remember the cost of this "exercise" but it amounted to something over $25,000.00 per gun, counting all 25. The.police chief, a staunch laughing-stock liberal, retired immediately afterwards. He'd gone on TV saying what a wonderful "thing" they were doing and he was happy to take part.

As I suggested several pages back, it is remarkably prescient for 55 years ago.
I got it because of your reference, thank you.

You mean the same liberal police chief who is the brother in law of a liberal m.p. ?

Around 20 years ago I was setting next to a 20 something year old single lady on a flight to Dar es Salaam. She had just gotten her first job with the UN and she was excited. Her rent stipend was $6,000/mth. She was wanting to live in Oyster Bay, a high end community on the beach.

I bit my tongue but wondered why an individual with a starter job would get such a lavish stipend working for the UN.

For some reason that memory came to mind when I read this article and I felt strangely satisfied.
