This one has me in a pickle. I support ICE officers and the job that they are trying to do, and I genuinely abhor the left and their supporters, protesters, vermin, et al. I really WANT TO BE able to look at this and find ANY justification for the deadly force in this case, but based on what I’ve seen so far, I just can’t. Tempting to say FAFO, but I don’t think it shoulda been her life she forfeited. Not a lawman and no experience at all. Just my $.02.

It’s certainly possible the ICE agent could be charged by the state but highly unlikely the state would maintain jurisdiction.

She doesn’t have the right to commit a felony while protesting though…

She paid the ultimate price for her clearly stupid behavior… I seriously doubt it was worth it to her children or anyone else that cared about her, or that she was supposed to care for…

The likelihood that she’ll be martyred or remembered in a positive light for this is almost non existent… she’ll either be completely forgotten by the entire world (other than the loved ones she has now left) in a matter of a couple of weeks… or will be remembered as the liberal white woman that FAFO (where things appear to be going right now)…

Neither paints a very bright or shiny picture for her family or whatever cause she thought she was supporting…

I have watched this video. I think the President said it best when he stated it was a horrible thing to watch. The fact that she is dead is no surprise to me. But I also think that this officer was not acting like a trained professional when he first engaged in the situation.

The act of shooting is hard to criticize as things unfold quickly. But professionals entrusted with the right to use force have to act professionally to avoid the inevitable use of force if possible. In this case I can’t reconcile how her obvious panic got her killed by a trained professional is a good way for professional law enforcement to act. To accept her death I have to accept that standard operating procedure with these officers dictates that this officer stand in front of this vehicle that is in the process of trying to escape in this circumstance. A high stakes game of chicken with a woman in a minivan doing silly obstructionist stuff. The strategy requires someone to die or get injured. But a little forethought would allow a trained professional to know that identifying and apprehending this mother is easy because she is clearly identified and driving a mini van registered to her. So why precipitate the game of chicken? Why did she have to be arrested at that moment? There was no reason. They were more concerned with projecting their authority than thinking about a strategy to arrest a nonviolent offender.

I recently rewatched the video. She backed up a little, turned the tires, then accelerated forward while the agent was still in front of her. It’s clearly a self-defense shoot.

It’s entirely possible that she panicked and wasn’t intending to hit him but that doesn’t change the fact that she accelerated while he was in front of the car. She was fleeing what was likely felony obstruction and in her rush nearly hit a federal agent. Her fear of lawful arrest is not a valid justification for potentially killing a member of law enforcement.

It’s unfortunate but I think it’s worth noting that nobody who hadn’t attempted to run over a federal agent was shot that day.

Just take it?! Isn't that the same ideals that Nazi Germany had, China thinks about Taiwan, and Russia with the Crimea and more recently Ukraine? True enough as the other post referenced, most of the players in the NHL are Canadians and many international players anyway so your point is moot.

Personally, if Alberta is to be sold, I would much rather be purchased by Denmark than by the USA. Maybe then, there would be direct flights to go hunt in Greenland more easily than the fly past route to Amsterdam and then Copenhagen! The main reason though, is as I look south of the border to the USA and given all the issues, it's like living in an apartment building with new crack head neighbours that have moved in from a trailer park.
