45,000 households (200,000 people) and businesses in a part of Berlin were without power for four days in sub-zero temperatures due to an arson attack. No water, no elevators, no heating, no trains, frost damage in apartments—everything that goes with it.
Generators could not be provided because all of them (no joke) had been delivered to Ukraine.
Not a word from Chancellor Merz (CDU).
Very few reports in the mainstream media.
Woe betide the right wing if they had cut off power to an asylum seekers' shelter.
The country would have been in uproar.
The mayor of Berlin (CDU),picture, visited people in the emergency shelters, such as a sick 98-year-old lady who was housed in a gym.
It's a pity she's not an illegal refugee, then she could have been put up in a hotel at the state's expense ...

Today, I once again wondered whether I should write an email to Donald Trump asking him to take over our country.
What is happening politically here is becoming increasingly difficult to bear.

It is sad that Berliner’s are having to deal with this. Hopefully the German people can vote their way out of the policies their politicians have placed on them.

I sincerely hate that for you and the German people @Foxi .. I am very hopeful your politicians and the politicians of your neighboring countries can turn things around before it is too late..

I dont pretend to know or understand what is at the root of all of the problems in Germany.. I just know that things are very different there today than they were 20 years ago when I was frequenting Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart..

I dont disagree that the US, UK, Europe, and the world are all about as divided as its been in a very, very long time...

but.. Im not so sure the 2020's are really any worse than the 1970's (there are a few here old enough to have been a teen or older during the 70's).. there were communist sponsored extreme liberal terror organizations conducting kidnappings, assassinations, and blowing shit up in europe (Red Brigades, Red Army Faction, etc).. the US was embroiled in violence tied to civil rights (black panthers, SLA, etc).. the drug culture was out of control.. almost all of Latin America was involved in some sort of civil war or military coup at some point, and then the global economy dropped into a massive recession..

somehow we (the US, Europe, etc) managed to pull it all back together for a little while..

Im hopeful the good Lord will give us at least one more shot at pulling it back together once again..

I was mainly referring to his "alliance" with Putin where Ukraine is concerned.

The Trump is beholden to Putin line has been a narrative in the media since Hillary Clinton and the DNC paid Perkins Coie to pay Christopher Steel for a dossier and to get Stephen Halper to set up George Popodopolus and General Flynn. All since debunked.

The Trump is beholden to Putin line continues in the media now since he doesn’t back Ukraine and Zelenskyy.

Does Trump hate Zelenskyy. Absolutely. Zelenskyy could have debunked and stopped the second impeachment by releasing information regarding the payments by Burisma and others to the Biden family. Zelenskyy didn’t and backed Biden. Ultimately Zelenskyy got over $100B from America and more from the EU.

Does Trump want to end the war. Absolutely. It builds his legacy and his ego. It may even get him his much coveted Nobel Prize. Does Trump want normalized relations with Russia. Absolutely. It means he can focus the majority of his attention on China and America First. Does that mean Trump kowtows to Putin or have an alliance with him. No.

I agree with @PHOENIX PHIL ... the other way I have heard it said is desperate people do desperate things..

I believe the German people are becoming desperate for a solution. Continuing to cater to asylum seekers that have no interest or desire in integrating into German society, and not focusing on taking care of the German people as a priority, is going to only continue to make things worse..

This has been building for a very long time, and didnt necessarily start with all of the people coming out of the middle east... I spent several weeks in Austria in the late 90's training with German and Austrian specialized police units.. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, etc had not entered the EU yet (they didnt join until 2004) but both the German and Austrian police were having huge problems with migrants coming over from those countries in large numbers. Crime rates were going up, the German and Austrian people apparently initially tried to be "nice", but over time were becoming more and more fed up with all of the associated problems (housing, jobs, language barriers, economic issues, etc).. and so the police were dealing with more and more complaints from their citizens... all the while the politicians were doing nothing about it..

All of this was coming from working class Germans and Austrians (cops).. they were not at all happy about the "open borders" and the impact from just allowing a flood of foreigners coming into the country..

The number of Hungarians coming into Austria in 1998 vs the number of Syrians coming into Germany now isnt even comparable..

I can only imagine how much worse things have gotten..

The Marine Corps sent me boys, basically trained. When they got to me they are idiots. It was my job to train them, according to orders, into something useful. And I had no time or wherewithal to act as a spiritual advisor to any single one of them if they didn’t feel that orders are appropriate or legal or righteous or what-the-fuck-ever. And I have even less patience to debate the matter.

I had to train them to drop bombs on the right people’s heads from everything from a 60mm tube to (at one time) a 16” rifled gun and how to juggle two (and sometimes) three radios to coordinate an air strike utilizing WP from an arty or mortar section while talking to pilots in a “pop”. And this was all done with a compass, map, and a set of bino’s.

Discipline is what sets aside a unit that is prepared for the inevitable combat they should be trained for and the rest of the lot. An idiot private can feel out what orders they think are orders they’re going to follow in the civilian world. Let’s see how that works out…

Certainly they are very far right.. and certainly many of them favor Russia over Ukraine and they for the most part favor Russia over the EU..

but... they are not entirely pro Russia..

Regarding whether or not Trump and Vance give a fuck about Europe.. I'd ask you, when was the last time any European leader gave a fuck about the US (other than its money and its security)..

Countries SHOULD put their own interests first... theres nothing wrong with being "friends".. but there is something absolutely wrong with prioritizing others over the citizens you are sworn to serve..

that said, there is potential value (as machevellian as it may be) in letting the Russians and Ukrainians continue to duke it out and slaughter one another for the next several years rather than helping either side actually "win"...

lets not kid ourselves.. the Ukrainians were not our friends prior to Russias invasion.. the Ukrainians were among the most capable and most prolific STATE SPONSORED cyber criminals that targeted US infrastructure as a priority.. Conti Group (russian state sponsored, but largely staffed with Ukranians and housed in Ukraine).. Carbanak (stole $1B from US financial institutions), Zeus, Avalanche, and numerous others put everything from our military to our banking to literally our restaurants and hospitals under threat for a couple of decades.. and Ukraine fully knew, understood, paid for and SPONSORED many of their activities..

Wanna guess how often US infrastructure is threatened by Ukranian state sponsored cyber criminals today?

My buddy that runs one of the largest defensive cyber groups on earth (He'll be at the party we're having Saturday during TTHA if anyone wants to meet him) advises the Ukranians are now way down at the bottom of the list... as in pretty much non existent..

And.. letting the Russians continue to spend money and expend assets in Ukraine certainly doesnt hurt the US in any way either.. if the Russians are one of the only 2 "near peer" threats that our military is concerned with, having their air, land, and sea capabilities decimated to the point where China becomes the only real "near peer" threat moving forward is a significant advantage to the US.. Suddenly Greenland isnt really something to worry about..

So.. while I dont necessarily agree with that sort of strategy (sooner or later human life needs to be considered).. there are absolutely circumstances where it is to the US's advantage to let the war continue to rage on for a few more years.. and if that results in Ukraine losing some territory in the process, it doesnt really matter much after the Russian military is destroyed, the Russian economy is set back 20 years, the Russian population of young military aged people is depleted, etc..etc..

While I disagree with the cynicism of this approach, this is the best written defense of Biden approach to the Ukraine invasion I have ever read (which I thought was horrific btw).
