Trump just simply needs to let go of the Greenland idea. It's gone too far.
Greenlanders don't want us there, and he needs to respect that. Can't have everything he wants.
If anything, make some kind of treaty, and, or, lease deal, for a small portion for military use with restrictions against use by China or Russia, if that's truly the concern..
The lease is already in place, and the US military base is already there. The use of Greenland by Russia and China... It's unlikely, after all, it's a NATO territory. It turns out that this step is aimed more at the security of the North American continent from some other potential enemy.

Never fly Airbus helicopters.. After this accident they were ousted from offshore use in Norway..

We now use Sikorsky S-92. I have flown Sikorsky helicopters as a passenger regularly for more than 30 years..always felt safe.. Never felt safe in Airbus helis..

Well, I’ve flown in an AS 350 several times over the years that is owned by a neighbor. Always felt safe. After the largest wildfire in Colorado history that burned from August through December 2020, we flew the fire area extensively to survey the fire impacts where we have eight wilderness pack-in camps. I’ve also flown for bighorn sheep surveys and just last summer we flew to look for two lost horses that another friend lost in the wilderness. These helicopters have even plucked climbers off of Everest. They are handy in the mountains.

Nice, just curious what the plan was on the horses, drop in and off load or just mark the spot and ride in? Ive lost some horses 4 or more times ,once they were gone 35 days full rigs on ,when I had a serious kidney stone attack. showed up in a campground minus saddles and about 300 lbs. Couldnt ever decide if they worked the saddles off or someone "acquired them"

And if the good General hasn’t convinced everyone that Helo’s are an evil necessity.

This picture shows the result of a common bad landing in a helo. The drawing shows me that he was wearing his seatbelt. Impact sent the torso forward and the lower portion stayed put. Which is common. You may recognize the name.

I never heard of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and 8 others aboard including his 13 yr old daughter described as a bad landing? It crashed into a hillside in heavy fog due to pilot error. When I was a marine we experienced an emergency hard landing in a CH-46 Sea Night (Good ol’ Phrog) when a blade rivet broke. Even with 20 year old airframes I always felt relatively safe in one unlike the CH-53E Super Stallion that would occasionally drop out of the sky for no apparent reason.

Many years later we lost 2 of our deputies and 1 medically retired after a catastrophic engine failure in a department Eurocopter EC120B, all good friends and coworkers,Star 6. I have no desire to fly in one anymore.

My friend is also my farrier and very experienced. He was scouting moose for me. After setting up his small camp in a giant meadow/park and looking at some moose, he saw a black bear on his way back to camp. He usually just hobbles his two horses overnight but should have tied up at least one of them after seeing a bear in the area. The bear must have came back by in the night and spooked the horses. He looked for them on foot for two days. He then took two of my horses and looked again for a few days with no luck. We decided to go look with the helicopter. After two hours circling all over the area and three hours of flight time, we still didn’t find the horses! The plan was to GPS the horses and to possibly rappel out of the helicopter if terrain allowed. It is illegal to land aircraft in a wilderness area.

We held out hope but I figured that they probably got tangled up in the trees due to being hobbled and had died somewhere out of sight. Lo and behold, they showed up back in the meadow a couple weeks later with hobbles still on! Some other horseback riders caught them up and trailed them out. Other than some raw hide from the hobbles, they were perfectly healthy and have fully recovered.

You must have found those pain meds tonight!

He said it was just a huge rubber band holding on the blades and rubber breaks.
I had one of those when I was a kid! Had to be careful not to overwind it because rubber bands do break! Limited flight time too as I recall...

Becoming somewhat annoyed with Trumps rhetoric concerning Greenland I decided to do a bit of research today.

Without going back too far into history I found the following.

1979. Greenland demanded and won home rule.

1982. Greenland voted out of the European Community and has remained out of the EU.

2009. Greenland gains right of self determination. Evidently Greenland can vote and neither Denmark or the EU has any say.

This puts Greenland in a prime negotiating position. Who can they negotiate the best deal with.

Trump appoints Landry as special envoy to go to Greenland to drum up internal support. If Greenland does vote for independence, it looks like it can negotiate the biggest windfall available between America and Denmark or stay an independent country.

All the countries involved know this. It’s just political theater which has become ugly.

Not at all. Trump is just being stupid on the push for Greenland. He's above himself on this one.
I just never thought I would read such words from your mouth! Your TDS is showing:P

Noted, but not relevant.

Major issue in Eagle Claw was landing and refueling from a C-130 on the ground in CH-53Ds. In addition to the mechanical problems with the Ds, there was a collision on the ground, which started the fire, etc.

This was (one of) the reason(s) the CH-53E has the in air capability.

Now, three engines and two transmissions, that's a whole different story that I don't understand. But I just used to stand underneath the things, so they didn't ask me...

If you want to see a state where the Republicans have lost almost everything just look at Colorado.

The candidates that they put up to run for office are next to complete loons as I have seen and then they wonder why they can't win a election.
Or even those who win like Gutless Hurd who likes to vote with Dems on a major issues.
