As a well read historian with a doctorate, I assume you know the parade was timed for the US Army's 250th birthday which dates to 14 June 1775 when the Continental Army was established by the Second Continental Congress (making it a year older than the US itself). The Army recognizes it every year with a ball in Washington and major headquarters locations. A parade had been in the planning stages well before Trump's election, though I am certain patriotic dems would have held a far more modest one - perhaps with some drag troops to add color.

I guess you don't read the news much. Trump tried to make his grandstand military parade to himself fly during his FIRST administration. That was long before the anniversary of anything except his fat ego. Fortunately, COVID saved us that grandiose waste of money ... for a little while anyway.

I’m not sure he can do it via executive order. But Congress has done similar already without challenge. The NFL is prohibited by law from playing on Friday nights or Saturday prior to mid-December

I didn't feel that way on our Kauai ride, but then, ignorance is bliss....

I looked for and found the only company at the time that would fly with the doors off. Figured this would make for better pictures, which it did. But our bird was an older smaller chopper. It would only carry up to 4 people that included the captain. This meant my wife and I would have the ride to ourselves. But as I say and older and smaller bird.

I noticed that all of the other helicopters on the pad were much newer and bigger. But they all flew with the doors on and I'm guessing they carried upwards of 6 or 7 passengers plus the pilot. Not likely to have the ride to yourself that way.

Yep. I still own property in US and pay taxes on my Social Security. Fortunately, US military disability pension is non-taxable.
