Drunk Man Accidentally Boards Bus Repatriating People to Zimbabwe Thinking It's Going to Thembisa
JOHANNESBURG — A local man is reportedly trying to convince border officials that he only wanted to visit his cousin in Thembisa after accidentally boarding a bus repatriating people to Zimbabwe.
The man, identified only as "Bra Vusi," allegedly climbed onto the bus shortly after leaving a nearby tavern, convinced it was headed to Thembisa Taxi Rank.
Witnesses say he confidently greeted everyone on board before asking, "Does this bus pass through Kempton Park?"
Passengers reportedly looked at him in silence before one finally replied, "Brother... this bus passes through Beitbridge."
According to eyewitnesses, Vusi simply nodded and said, "Eish... Thembisa has changed."
The confusion only became apparent several hours later when the bus stopped near the border and officials began checking travel documents.
Instead of producing a passport, Vusi proudly handed over his Smart Shopper card and asked if it counted as identification.
Border officials say he became concerned only after spotting a large "Welcome to Zimbabwe" sign.
"That's when he stood up and shouted, 'Driver! You missed my stop by about 500 kilometres!'"
Friends back home say Vusi has a long history of boarding the wrong transport after a night out.
"Last December he took a taxi to Pretoria thinking he was going to Soweto," one friend laughed. "He even called us asking why everyone suddenly had different accents."
The bus driver reportedly admitted he assumed Vusi knew where he was going because he slept peacefully for almost the entire journey and only woke up whenever snacks were handed around.
At the time of publication, Vusi was reportedly negotiating with officials, insisting he should be dropped off at the nearest taxi rank because, according to him, "My mother will never believe I overshot Thembisa by an entire country."
