OMG! This is no BS!

When I was a teenager, my dad decided to put in a double-boxed wood furnace with vents holes on top that connected to the heating ducts in the house. It had electric fans under the stove box that moved air around the outside of the interior box and out into the ducts. Put it in the corner of our family room in the walk-out basement to "save money on the heating oil bill." Yeah right!

Buy wood furnace
Cut hole in wall for stove pipe
Buy stovepipe
Buy brick
Have mason make brick chimney on the outside of the house all the way up three stories
Strip walls in the corner and install heat shield tile
Tear up carpet in corner
Buy and install floor tile in corner
Buy chainsaw
Buy extra chains
Buy gas can, gas, two-cycle oil and bar oil
Buy log splitter
Buy gas for truck to go to the forest to cut dead trees

We spent every other weekend after sports games all summer driving into the forest, felling trees, then carry wood to truck, drive home, unload wood in pasture behind backyard, split wood, reload wood in truck, drive to house, unload wood, stack wood on patio. You handle the wood four or five times! But when you have two boys (slaves) who cares?? Got so damn hot in the family room that you could hardly stand to watch TV all winter. Lol. What a BARGAIN!

I was so sick and tired of wood heat that I put gas log fireplaces in the first two houses I built.

Yup. Grew up doing that. We burned wood exclusively. We'd log an area in the summer and go back and get the tops for the next year's firewood.

The common wisdom on wood heat is it makes you hot five times:
1- when you cut it
2 -when you split it
3 - when you load/carry it in
4 - when you burn it
5 - when you think about doing it again next year

My apologies for any grief that I may have caused you. I now have a pit in my stomach and I'm really pissed off and embarrassed. I feel that I have been made a fool of.

Please accept my apology.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.
