Welcome and good luck.

Welcome and enjoy your hunt. Soak it all in and start planning for your return. You will get hooked on Africa!

Huntingjrsy22, welcome to the AH forum! We will be anxiously waiting for a trip report! I’m sure you are going to have a grand adventure and I hope your trigger finger can hold up to all that trigger time…LOL!

Welcome to AH Huntingjrsy22! Have a great time in Africa.

Hello Huntingjrsy22,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Hello everybody! New member here, but a long time lurker. I'm heading out to South Africa in a few days for the first time. I would like to thank everyone for all the great info and tips I've picked up here over the past year. I will be hunting with frontier safaris, I booked their 12 animal package. More than anything I'm really looking forward to relaxing, getting to know this beautiful continent a little better, and enjoying a week of hunting.
hey good luck on your trip and enjoy, I am in the same boat I will be leaving in 2 weeks and happy that I do not have to pay for a PCR test now that So Africa has dropped the requirement for those of us who have been jabbed, have a great time

:S Welcome:

Never hunted with a package, but too late now to give any advice, wish you the best !

If you have 10 days to hunt you should have no problem getting everything except mountain reedbuck, those little critters can be tough to find. Was over there last week saw everything on your list several times. Good people. Tell Barry and Jason hello for me. Everything is wet and green. Animals were all day and pretty. Good luck wish I was going with you. Captain David newlin

Nice hunt. Post pictures. I am scheduled to go to South Africa in June 2022. Hope no travel rules change.

Thank you, my hunting package will consist of the following. I'm most looking forward to the Kudu
  • Kudu
  • Gemsbuck
  • Blue -or- Black Wildebeest
  • Impala
  • Blesbuck
  • Duiker
  • Warthog
  • Cull Impala
  • Cull Blesbuck
  • White blesbuck
  • Mountain Reedbuck
  • Black Springbuck
Exciting trophy hit-list & confident your visit will be relaxing + a very memorable visit/hunt experience … word of cautious on your taxidermy expenditures w/ 10/trophy package. Easily exceed the cost of the flight/hunt if you allow it to get away. Happy Trails.

I suppose I'll see what I actually end up with and make a decision from there. I just don't want to not ship something back home and regret it later.

Then there is the next trip.

As I mentioned I missed out on a warthog 7 years ago and had a hard time trying to find someone to go back with me so that I could bag one. Well, a member on the site here took pity on my and offered me a spot on a group hunt that he organized and here I am leaving in 2 months.

I have already notified Frontier Safaris that a warthog is my #1 animal and the rest on the list are all secondary. It doesn't say that if I see a exceptional blue wildebeest on the first day before I get my warthog I won't shoot it but I'm going to get that warthog.

This is something I keep forgetting, but everyone I talk to says "you will be going back to Africa after your first trip" lol. So maybe I need to keep that in mind. I'm sure I'll catch the bug like everyone else. Good luck on your return trip, warthog is one I'm really hoping for too!

Hi @Huntingjrsy22

I totally agree & advise against leaving any trophies in Africa. Sorry, I should have been more clear on comment: best, balance Western Shoulder vs. European Skull Mounts & especially true on a 1st trip w/ 10/trophies.

I was severely unprepared (& clueless) on my 1st trip w/ Taxidermy & it is not merely price $ of the mounts (I wish). Vet Cert, shippers permits, & land/air logistical crate/cubic fees leaving S. Africa & again charges $ when entering the U.S. which can add up quickly & ‘sticker shock’ for some, or, a moot point if you have deep fun money $$ pocket’s.

Frontier Safaris has a reputation of getting you on game like a vast majority of quality Outfitters posting up on AH so I’m confident - vast majority to your full hit-list will make it to salt … then you have an on the spot decision @ skinning shed, cape for Shoulder or European mount?

With 10 … it could be frowned upon to ‘cape everything’ & decide on 2 or 3 capes later because, flat skins are used in the tanning industry BUT that is your choice & back-up capes @ Taxidermist can be helpful. Best to have this conservation w/ PH on day #1 & clear messaging throughout the hunt.

*Tip 1: 1st trip & undoubtedly the majority are planning their 2nd visit on a return flight cocktail napkin - save afew mounts for the next rodeo.

*Tip 2: ask your PH, “trophy quality - good representative of the Species?” Or, “Toad, Chief, Stunner, Banger … of the Species?” I rarely leave a Top Tier trophy to European mount - but - European mounts are stylish!

If possible, 1st time hunters can really benefit from visiting a Taxidermist on Day of Arrival & visually see mount options, wall space, & crate sizes, etc.

Happy Trails …

For what it’s worth, a friend of mine took 5 animals last September. Nyala, gemsbuck, waterbuck, blue wildebeest, impala. Dip and pack, 800. Air freight to get animals to US, 1800.

Good to know, thank you. I had estimated about 1500 dip pack and 3k shipping based on other posts. But again, that's assuming I actually connect on 10 trophies. If I go there and manage to land even 3 or 4 I'll be happy.

Welcome to AH. Enjoy the forum, it's very addicting.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
