NAMIBIA: Three Sixty Safaris Namibia 2026

My hunt was a package hunt for 8 hunting days and 2 travel days. My package animals were a dik dik and a giraffe. My ph was Carel Alberts the owner of Three Sixty Safaris. Some of you may know Carel as he worked many years as a PH for Thormahlen & Cochran Safaris. He made many trips to the states for the show season working for them also. In 2022 he decided to open his own business, based out of Namibia. Using Facebook messenger and WhatsApp we set the hunt dates up and I told him the extra animals I was interested in. We made plans for me to arrive on the 21 of july and fly out on the 28th of july after I found tickets that would work for me. Over the months we kept in touch. As with every time I go to Africa I asked if he needed anything brought over. A couple weeks before heading over Carel asked if I would order some chocolate flavored cigars from a company in Texas. After failing 3 different times on the company's website I called. The owner answered and told me the credit card processing was down on the website. So he emailed me a link to pay. Jackpot this time it worked and I let him know I would need them delivered by the 17th. He assumed me he would get them out asap. We'll fast forward to the 16th and I call to ask for tracking because they didnt show up. He informs me he forgot to mail them. So with that I figured we got all the bad luck out of the way before even leaving.

On july 18 I flew from Cleveland to Chicago and then Chicago to Zurich, Switzerland. I would then have a 23 hour layover to do some sightseeing in Zurich. This was my first time flying with Swiss. No complaints about them. I even got poor man's first class. I was in the back in cattle class and the flight was supposed to full. Somehow the only empty seats on the whole plane ended up being right new to me. So I was able to put my legs up and spread out.

Zurich was easy to travel around with their public transportation. I will say food and drinks where very expensive especially with the dollar being weak to their currency. After sightseeing I headed back to the hotel to get some sleep before my morning flight from Zurich to Windhoek, Namibia. The next morning I had no problems getting to the airport and clearing immigration. Then I was off to Namibia. This time no luck on empty seats next to me but atleast I had a outside aisle seat.

Well, I can honestly say I’ve never been on a dik dik and giraffe safari. Interested how this one goes!

Landed in Windhoek around 7:30 pm. Sent Carel a message saying we hit the runway. He informed me he was already at the airport waiting on me. I had the option of applying for my visa online or doing it in person at the airport. I opted to wait and do it at the airport just in case my flight or trip got canceled. One nice thing about Windhoek airport is you unload off the airplanes via steps to the tarmac. So even tho I was in the back of the plane I was one of the first off since we unloaded from both the front and rear of the plane. Well lady luck stuck again. This time it was the line for needing to buy your visa versus the line for people that bought it online. My line only had 8 people in front of me but the other line had 100s of people in it. 3 flights had all landed within 25 mins of each other at this small airport. It didnt take too long to clear immigration and I was off to meet Carel.

Upon meeting Carel he informed me.we would be driving north to overnight before switching out vehicles and driving to the hunting grounds. Carel asked if I needed to eat and I informed him I had ate on the plane. Swiss Air had excellent food and I had actually filled up on bread as they walked around and gave out extras as much as you wanted. So we drove non stop north to the town of Otjiwarongo. I would be staying on the grounds of Carels home that he shares with his wife and 3 children. He had recently built a guest house on the property and I would be the first to stay in it. Everything was picture perfect in it. There was a box of chocolate waiting for me on the bed, along with a green polo shirt and hat sporting the Three Sixty Safaris logo. The fridge was stocked with water and juice. Carel had taken the time months before to ask what I liked to drink and eat. Everything was brand new and really well laid out. I really appreciated that the outlets by the bed had ports to plug phone charging wires in without the need of any adaptors.

I forgot to take pictures of the bed until I had already messed the covers up sleeping. Loved the rustic wood used as an accent wall.

Day 2 in Namibia started with hot shower and then some fresh fruit. We would be driving an hour or so north to the town of Outjo. We would stop here for breakfast at a small mom and pop restaurant/bakery. Before we heading out all the gear was loaded up in Carel's Landcrusier. It was at this time I met his tracker Billy. I believe Carel said.they had been working together since 2007. I took this as a good sign for two reasons. It meant Billy definitely knew his stuff for Carel to keep him employed that long and it meant Carel must treat Billy pretty good for him to keep working for that long. While loading the truck I saw something I had never seen on any of my other trips. Carel had an electric ice chest to keep stuff cool in the bed of the truck. It ran on its own car battery that was hooked up to the alternator for recharging. We loaded up and made the drive north. The town of Outjo was busy as it is a big stop area for people traveling north to Estonia National Park. Breakfast was delicious. We also grabbed some fresh fruit at the local grocery. Carel had remembered me saying I enjoyed fruit when it was hot out rather then having a big lunch. I am perfectly happy eating biltong and fruit for a simple lunch. From Outjo we would drive about an hour before arriving to the large cattle farm we would be hunting on.

When we arrived on the farm we made our way to shot the guns. For this trip it would be 3 guns. A 22 hornet, a 30-06, and a 300 win mag. After shooting some targets and both Carel and the landowners sons approval of my shooting capabilities we were off to hunt. On this property are main targets would be dik dik, hartmans mountain zebra, black wildebeest, kudu, baboon, jackal, and warthog. As we made are way around we instantly started seeing dik dik everywhere. It didn't take to long to find one to stalk up on. Unfortunately while putting the gun up on the sticks he decided to run off never looking back. We continued to drive around the property. Eventually we heard that noise every african hunter knows. The tap of the tracker on the roof let us know something was out there. Sure enough it was a lone male Black wildebeest. We made a game plan to stock up the road about 700 yards and try to use some bushes as cover. This seemed to be working except for the wind swirling. As we moved in closer we realized it was actually 2 bulls. We kept low and moved slowly, stopping each time they looked our way. We eventually got into range. I was just about to squeeze the trigger on the 30-06 on a broadside shot when he turned facing me directly. So I placed the crosshairs for a frontal and squeezed. He instantly looked hit. This was confirmed when he dropped about 30 yds away. First animal of the trip in the salt. Congratulations and hero pics all around.

After loading the wildebeest up and dropping it off at the skinning shed we had time for a quick bite eat. Carel had picked up some meat pies at the bakery that were delicious. Then it was off to see what we could find in tbe bush. We looked at many more dik diks but just didnt see the one. The landscape of the property was very rocky with lots of thorn tree bushes with a mix of grasses. Winter in Namibia is very dry and everything was dry and dusty. We continued looking for dik dik or anything else. Eventually we saw 2 baboons across a small canyon. We stopped and tried a shot at them. The distance was long and there was some wind. Any other animal would of been passed but with a baboon it was worth the chance. Unfortunately it was a miss. But it was fun trying. We wrapped up the hunting that day with a stock on a dik dik but this one just didnt want to stop moving and worked out of range in the fading daylight.
