My Ferlach Custom .505 Gibbs

Can I ask why you didn’t get the barrel machined with the sights, quarter rib, and barrel band all integrated?
Is that possible? I have semi- custom builds with the barrels made by Benchmark and Douglas. In both cases the sights were soldered on afterwards. I wasn’t given the option otherwise.

From a custom maker it is.

I am a huge fan of this project. I'd love to see it finished and all put together and get a close up of the horn fore end.

Sorry to insert into the thread. Apologies.

@Pheroze
Barrel makers can only turn a barrel on a lathe.
Here is a trio just off the 4-axis CNC.
They require at least a 1.75” diameter barrel blank

And polished

You sir have excellent taste in rifles and caliber. Cannot wait to see photos of the completed rifle, and how it shoots.

Well thought out and appears superbly executed thus far.

Good morning,

so today I will show the rifle completed. It was build by Joh. Outschar Sohn, Ferlach. A small but exquisite and old rifle company with history. It took a while and the rifle will be delivered end of this month with another built he is just finishing for me. I hope you share my joy and now impartience to get it.

Pure art. In this mass produced world having a rifle that displays this level of craftsmanship is a blessing. You have a real treasure there.

Absolutely stunning! Congratulations sir!

@Lowdi
Wonderful piece!

What is the first animal to hunt, you are planning?

PERFECT! Well done, sir!

Very nice sir,
Just the right amount of gold not to distract from its purpose which I hope will be to shoot some big game.
Please tell us more about the FMZ action.

Turned out gorgeous. Excited to hear more once you have it in hand. Do you know the finished weight of the rifle?

With your Heym’s did you get to visit the factory and see any of their processes of being born?

Exquisite gun, just pure art

Holland & Holland uses these actions on their magazine rifles. Top grade stuff. Cycles as smooth as silk.

@mark-hunter
I am unsure what to hunt with it first. I think Elephant could be on the list.

@John Telford
FZH is a smaller company including gun shop and metalworks near the Luxemburg border and manufactures 98 system from the small ones to magnums on order. They sell the system to all kind of gunshops around europe and I was told that these systems are top notch, so we deceided to take one in .505 Gibbs.

@Wildwillalaska
The weight is between 6,1 and 6,2 kg
Yes I live 45 minutes away from the HEYM factory and had several tours myself and with friends. All HEYM rifles I ordered in the factory and picked them up after building in Gleichamberg. I have seen regulating, building, barrel making and test firing on the rifle range there. All wooden blankets I chose myself there and I have seen some impressive guns there. Only the .600 NE series I haven´t seen in nature until now. But it is on my plan during the wintertime.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
