One of the great voices of conservation is now quiet.

I guess I’m willing to cut Jane some slack. She walked the talk for decades. She wasn’t a cocktail party conservationist. She lived out her commitment to wild things in wild places. I don’t agree with her stance on trophy hunting, but I’d have enjoyed the opportunity to meet her and exchange views.

@Doug3006 Likewise.

And, like old George Adamson, there are a lot of former (and current) PHs who called her friend and supported her efforts. I respect her work a great deal.
Agreed. She deserves the utmost respect from all of us. It's ok to agree to disagree on things. As @Doug30-06 said she lived the life for many decades and was a huge contributor to conservation. RIP Jane.

This effectively banned all imports of sport hunted elephant and rhino trophies into Canada, even from countries where elephant populations are well managed (and often over abundant). This was a unilateral move by the (liberal) Canadian government with no consultation whatsoever with African countries. Grandstanding and virtue signaling at its best.

That being said, I respect Jane Goodall for who she was and what she accomplished.

The good news is that Bill never passed and is now not even on the Order paper.

Hi RLD,

I wish it hadn't passed, but it did. It was implemented in early 2024 through the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (known as WAPPRIITA) by the creation of sections 12.1, 12.2 and 12.3 of the Wild Animal and Plant Regulations:

I don't want to go too deeply down the rabbit hole, but the Jane Goodall Act (Bill S-241) never passed and is (effectively) dead. So is Bill s-15 a similar piece of legislation.

You are correct that WAPPRIITA does have relevant regulations but they are not as expansive as the demands of s-241 or s-15. IIRC WAPPRIITA has been around since the early 90's.

RIP Jane

Jane was just in Fredericksburg, Texas last week visiting Longneck Manor. It is a giraffe and rhino sanctuary that our company supplies products for. My wife missed meeting Jane due to a scheduling conflict, and we share the sadness of her passing.

Like others, I disagreed with her on some issues, but I can always at least listen and learn from someone if they have a good heart.

She was a leftist academic in most respects.

She did live in the field but she was no friend of hunters.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
