He has provided me with much needed guidance when I purchased my first double rifle. Answered many of my questions with patience. Met up with him a few months back at a local gun show. He was a nice guy in person as he was online.
I am sad to say that Cal’s passing is indeed confirmed. I spoke with his friend and physician last evening and this morning. He will be missed.
I am glad to have known him and to have shared Alaska and African adventures with him.
I've never before been physically shocked hearing of a forum member passing. I couldn't believe my eyes. He seemed like someone who would always be there talking about doubles and answering questions for others and maybe myself one day.
OMG, terrible news! Never met him, but PM with him frequently. I purchased some dummy rounds for my collection. Very pleasant individual. What a shame. RIP Cal, you will be dearly missed.
I met him at the 2018 Alaska double rifle shoot, great guy with tons of knowledge and always willing to talk guns. I purchased one of his great books (bore rifles) and he included a 4-bore lead ball with the book. My sincere condolences to his family, he will be missed!
thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
hey bob , new on here. i specifically joined to enquire about a 444 you built on a Enfield 4-1 you built . who did the barrel and what was the twist and profile specs ? look foward to your reply . cheers
