Company Profile

Professional hunter and outfitter, Jaco Oosthuizen,is a founder member of Game Trackers Africa cc, a Namibian registered company, which is currently the marketing agent for Ondjamba Safaris cc (SA), Pori Trackers of Africa (T) Ltd. and East Africa Trophy Hunters Ltd (the latter, both in Tanzania). These companies are all owned by and operated under the professional guidance of Jaco & Magdel Oosthuizen.

Ondjamba Safaris cc was first established in 1998 as the result of a life long dream finally realized by Jaco. Ondjamba is a Namibian native word for elephant, originating from the Himba’s, amongst whom he partly grew up. Jaco’s great-grandfather (SJ Oosthuizen 1828-1917) was a very skilled hunter, who hunted amongst the famous white hunters who tamed west and central Africa with great courage during the mid to late 1800’s. SJ’s enormous passion for elephant hunting (and upon who’s experience some written Dutch publications were based) encouraged Jaco to call his company after the single animal SJ had most respect for; the elephant aka Ondjamba. Jaco was raised in a family of big game hunters in partly untamed Namibia where he first learned and mastered his hunting skills. He started off studying law after high school, but his love for wildlife, hunting and his urge for adventure encouraged him to become a professional hunter.

Between 1994 – 1996 he obtained his professional hunters licenses in all major South-African provinces and gained extensive experience under the guidance of several experienced outfitters and professional hunters. In 1996/7 he also spent several months in East-Africa’s Kenya on a very adventurous culling expedition. After returning from Kenya, he continued hunting extensively in Southern Africa. In his capacity of hunting outfitter, professional hunter and operations manager he obtained very early successes in the hunting industry.

Very soon Jaco established himself a great reputation that caused the expansion of his company (1999) further into East Africa’s Tanzania – the last frontier! Jaco rapidly established excellent hunting areas in the world famous Selous Game Reserve and Moyowosi/Kigosi Game Reserve.

In due time he obtained shares in Pori Trackers of Africa (T) Ltd., after the establishment of East Africa Trophy Hunters Ltd. in 2006. These Tanzanian based companies form the basis of our operations and interests in this beautiful East African country where we believe your dreams are awaiting you . . . Jaco & Magdel Oosthuizen and their team of professional hunters will ensure that you will enjoy the most memorable time of your life, in Africa.

Collectively we offer you many years of experience throughout Africa. Tanzania

Game Trackers Africa has being operating in East Africa’s Tanzania since 1999. Starting off in the world renowned Selous Game Reserve (comprising of 26000 square km), we rapidly established ourselves to be a highly reputable company which certainly provided the goods, since day one . We slowly reached out to Western and Northern Tanzania, enabling you, the client to hunt all the Tanzanian species.

From 2000 – 2003 we hunted the Moyowosi Game Reserve, one of Africa’s best known hunting areas, where we ended up boasting proudly, after 4 seasons, with a unbeatable 100% success rate on our cat hunts. With this excellent track record, harvesting some of the finest lion Africa has to offer, we now, finally we acquired 600 000, acres in the Kigosi Game Reserve, bordering the Moyowosi River to the east. We’ve been hunting this area this 2004, having gained knowledge of the area like no one else. Western Tanzania is known to be prime lion area, the best in all of Africa – we have the area, we have the experience, we have hard-working professional hunters, we have the equipment, we have the means to get you a fine manned lion, a huge tom-leopard, let alone the fact that we harvested buffalo as big as 49 1/2 inches in this area.- that speaks for itself ! Species such as Cape Buffalo, Leopard, Sable, Topi, Bohor Reedbuck, Sitatunga, Roan, Bushbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, and Eland, amongst many others are abundant in numbers, not to mention the unsurpassed trophy quality.

The area consists of typical miombo forests in the northeast, sloping down to the west towards the Moyowosi River where it turns into a swamp, which makes it ideal for Sitatunga hunting. The swamp/savannah is of course accessible during the dry hunting season, which also enables us to get hold of those big Dagga Boys that hides in the reeds. Huge elephant are also taken from time to time on the islands inside the swamp. The swamp makes up about 16% of the concession. which is still very substantial for Sitatunga hunting. The rest of the terrain is made up by acacia woodlands combined with rolling, open savannah, favored by most plains game animals grazers!

The Selous Game Reserve sprawl over 19 300 square miles with virtually no human settelements. The area is primarily moimbo forest but there is several rivers, hills and open plains. The Selous still hosts us with yet another two quality hunting blocks; one on the Kilombero River, and another south of the Rufiji river, respectively comprising of 240 000 and 290 000 acres. The Kilombero River, of which we enjoy almost 20 miles of river frontage) hosts an abundant number of wildlife, including Hippo and Crocodile.

The area varies from rolling grassy woodlands and plains, to rocky outcrops cut by the Rufiji river. The area is also well known for it’s huge elephant and dense populations of cape buffalo, the big cats of africa and plains game, promising to offer the best hunting you ever experienced.

This is Africa if you ever dreamt about it – easily accessible by charter; it still offers some of the finest hunting.

Masaailand lies north of Lake Manyara and stretches north to the Seregenti. It is mainly Acacia Brush country with great open plains, rocky outcrops and patches of thick thornbush. Game includes lion, leopard, grant’s and thompson’s gazelle, gerenuk, coke’s hartebeest, east african impala, greater and lesser kudu, fringe – eared oryx, ostrich, bohor reedbuck, steinbuck, white bearded wildebeest and zebra .

South Africa

General Info
Our headquarters are based in Bela Bela, from where we can run with ease our operations and logistics in all our concessions throughout the country. Ondjamba Safaris cc, your host and the outfitting company is able to cater for all your needs as far as all the different game species of South Africa is concerned.

Limpopo and North West Provinces

The majority of our plains game hunting safaris takes place in these two provinces, which also previously formed part of the old Transvaal. Concessions stretch from the Limpopo river in the North, down South to Warmbaths (Bela Bela) where we mostly hunt for: Greater Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Cape Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Eland, Zebra, Impala, Warthog, Giraffe, Rhino, and to a lesser degree: Gemsbuck, Blesbuck, Nyala, Bushpig, Steenbuck, and Duiker as well as a variety of small cats.

The Northwest Province and Freestate with its typical semi-Kalahari vegetation of rolling Savannah and big Camel thorn trees host us with our prime concessions for Gemsbuck, Black Wildebeest, Cape Hartebeest, Springbuck, Blesbuck, Zebra, Common Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Caracal, Jackal and in smaller quantities Greater Kudu, Impala, and Eland.

Eastern Cape

The hunting areas are vast with tremendous variety of species available to the serious hunter.

Here we have several very large concessions where you are accommodated in either very comfortable thatched-style bush camps or in the original ranch style homesteads, some well over 100 years old. Typical South African dishes are served with outstanding locally produced wines. This area consists of a wide variety of habitats, varying from coastal brush and valleys to the Winterberg Mountain range 7000ft up in some places. Species typical to the region are Blue Duiker, Grysbuck, Bushpig, Caracal, Oribi, Mountain Reedbuck, Vaal Rhebuck, Cape Bushbuck, and Eastern Cape Kudu, White Springbuck, Black Springbuck, Common Springbuck, White Blesbuck, Nyala, Hartebeest, Red Lechwe amongst many others.

KwaZulu Natal (Zululand)

Zululand also offers a number of hunting opportunities of a very high standard. These areas are situated on the North East coast of South Africa approximately 3 hours drive from Durban and 6 hours from Johannesburg. Traditional home to the Zulu, Zululand is steeped in history and culture. Once a savage land of warring tribes and vast wilderness areas where Zulu Kings held private hunting grounds, it is now better known for its National Parks, wildlife and unspoiled coastline. Species like Red Duiker, White Rhino, Livingstone’s Suni, and of course the well known Nyala occur in abundance. You can be accommodated in comfortable furnished East African style safari tents with in-suite bathrooms, or in reed and thatch traditional bungalows with similar features. These camps all have a central dining facility where one can relax in comfortable lounges or at the bar enjoying the beautiful view or sunset. Meals are served around a fire complimented by outstanding South African wines. Other attractions to this region are offshore fishing for Marlin or Sailfish as well as outstanding Scuba Diving on unspoiled coastal reefs.

Big Five Safaris

Most Dangerous Game Safaris are conducted in the provinces of Limpopo, North West and Natal. This will include Cape Buffalo, White Rhino, Lion, Leopard and Elephant. Prices are available on request as we look forward to tailor make your dangerous game package to your needs.

Bird Shooting

Bird Shooting Safaris are conducted from April through September, in the Freestate, Eastern Cape, North West, and Limpopo for species like Waterfowl, Dove, Pigeon, Guinea Fowl, and Francolin. These are also tailor made safaris and take place over 3 – 5 days although one can add a few days wing shooting to your safari if necessary.

Bow Hunting

Bow Hunting Safaris are undertaken throughout the year but we recommend the dry months (June-September). Hunting is done from established blinds around waterholes and also the old walk and stalk method.
