Not quite what you think guys.

I do my list in my mind mostlyI'm jus not that organized. Then there is my father. He always had a list for everything and has been known to do stuff like take a broken 23 year old garden hose that broke in for warranty work because he still had the original receipt and the 25 year warranty imformation....

I'm going through my file cabinet for clean out as I do annually or at least every couple of years. You're benefiting from this year's clean out. Attached is some very helpful information. You may need to add a few items for your African trips, but at least the list will give you a start. The list worked well 35 years ago for the deer lease so I'm sure it will be of some advantage for African hunting in the year of 2016.

I used to laugh at the list, until the time I forgot my bedroll.....

And notice "piece of carpet." Dad slept in the back of our station wagon, so he used that to have a dry place to put his feet in the morning and to get his boots on.

Eagle Scout. He still has his old scout stuff from the 50s.

Lists are good. I have one for going to the range.
I sort of have one for local hunting but plan to sit down and make a good one.
I had one for Africa but since I was only going one time I tossed it..........Now I have to make another for my 2017 trip.
When I have a list and cross out each item when packed I never forget anything

I have often headed off on a hunting trip and when I am at least 30 miles from home I start to wonder just what I left that I might need.

I usually figure that as long as I have my rifle, ammo, knife, and my license I am good to go.

This all brings back memories & makes me think long & hard of where we are today. First, a Station Wagon? I'm shocked! I thought my old man was the only one who did that. Today it's downright embarrassing to be seen hunting without a monster 4X4.

Next is the noticeable absence from the list of electronic digital gadgetry some folks just have to have. From Cell Phones, GPS units, & Portable Weather Stations all the way to a Laptop. One gentleman I know must have an FCC License for all of his gear.

it's a wonder any of us could find our way home. Let alone kill anything with such crude weapons as maybe an old Model 94 .30-30. I'd like to think that your Papa would agree that those were simpler times.

And my dad does have a cell phone now. He's had one for well over a year now. And heck, he had one of those weather radios way back in the early 70s.

The station wagon was a 1977 Ford LTD with a 460 CI engine. We also just wore blue jeans. Don't know how we killed anything without camo either.

Ah camo. As hunters we've fallen victim to the latest annual fashion trends as bad as the ladies with their designer clothes. You do realize we're supporting an entire industry. I have more tied up in camo than I spent on my first M70. And it came with a 4X Weaver Scope!

@Clayton - You're absolutely right. When I started out hunting in Virginia, my mentor was an old time hunter who sat out in the woods wearing blue jeans and flannel with a Marlin Lever action in .30-30 while smoking a cigarette. And when I say sat, he wasn't in a tree stand, he was on the ground or on a fallen tree.

He killed a whitetail every year to put meat in the freezer. He never understood why I spent so much money on camouflage, tree stands, scent killer, etc.

I like the way he brought out a list from over 30yrs ago... i can hardly find stuff i wrote down last week!

I would add to that list with a bucket, shovel, fly spray (for tsetse's) and mosquito spray! But i guess thats more specific to this side of the world.

Tell me about it!!!! My father may be the most organized man I've ever kmown!

The time of year meant very few bugs or I'm sure that spray would have been on the list too.

I also bring a small fanny pack with room for ammo, camera, energy bars, tissue paper and with an aluminium drinking bottle filled with water.
Been in a few situations where a "just a quick stalk" turns into a full day expedition.
