I have been offered an old, large female hippo.

What kind of trophy can I expect ?

A big mouthed broad (chuckle). Seriously, a female may be a little smaller than a bull.

That, I expect, the question is, a bit smaller, or much smaller ? I just have no clue.

Me, either. Never hunted one or seen one in the wild. I'm going on the premise that most females of a species tend to be smaller.

Obviously you have never been to Butte, Montana! Lol

Grow 'em pretty big up there, do they?

I believe the female tusks are smaller.

body size about 80% of the bull but tusks can be very nice.

Thank you Charlie, this is helpful.

So, it could be interesting to hunt a large female at a reasonable price, the hunt itself is exactly the same as with a male, and I may still obtain a good trophy :D Cheers:

Absolutely. The cows will offer you everything in the hunt that a Bull offers. Tusks are just not as heavy and thick as a Bull. You will get a great skull from your hunt, and possibly leather if you choose to take the skin.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
