Hello from Denton TX

Hello,
I joined this forum a week ago, I haven't been to Africa yet but I hope to go there someday. What kind of hunting would somebody recommend to someone who has never hunted there? Start out hunting plains game first before hunting the big five?

Welcome to the forum. It really depends on whether you are planning on returning to Africa whether you should pursue plains game first or go straight for dangerous game . I can tell you that about 99% of all hunters who hunt Africa become obsessed with what she has to offer and plan a return trip before they leave after their first trip is completed.
My opinion is that you should start off on the plains game. The plains game has such a variety with different "Grand Slams", "Tiny 10" and such that it could keep you busy for a good couple of years and trips.
Once you have a bit of experience under the belt, dangerous game will be the next step. So much to hunt, yet so little time.

First of all welcome to AH.

Marius is right, so much to hunt so little time.

It sounds like you plan and are able to do multiple trips so where you start is really up to you. If you were an inexperienced hunter I would say stick to plains game otherwise hunt what you like. You will be back and there will always be something you have never hunted yet so don't worry about too much too soon IMO.

How much money do you have? How much time?

Have a look through the offers and the hunt reports and you will get an idea of what might work for you.
Keep asking questions and members will help you out.


If you have hunted with a guide before and can communicate well you may be able to start chasing Dangerous Game. If not most will suggest that you start our chasing plains game. You are a lot less likely to make a mistake that will be very costly, in money and injury terms.

Everyone will note that you are not going on one trip. You will return.

There are more species to chase/hunt than you can shake a stick at.
