Hi all,

I found this site after digging a 1980's era Sako AIV .338 Win Mag out of the safe last summer and working up a modern load. This brought back an almost forgotten bucket list dream of hunting Southern Africa.

Not sure the old (almost 70 year old) body will be able to make the trip, but I think I'll work on it just in case.

I've very much enjoyed reading the AH site so far.

As for me, I'm retired but still a moderately active shooter and serious reloader after a life of hunting and shooting (mostly in SE and West Texas) - along with various shooting related sports.

Shooting sticks are on order. Something new to learn!

Joe

Hi Joe, welcome to AH !

So, nearly 70...you can still make the trip. Believe me ;)

Shootist-, welcome to a very enjoyable forum! I didn’t make my first trip to Africa until I was 69. Heading out this summer on my 4th trip and already planning my 5th. I try to work out 3 days a week to stay in what ever shape I can to be able to hunt and fish.
Go and best of luck!

Welcome to AH!

Welcome, welcome, and contribute please.

Welcome to AH.

Welcome! A trip to Africa might make for a great 70th birthday present and celebration.

Brilliant!

Just used this idea on my wife. )

Thanks to all for the encouragement.

Welcome to AH Joe!

Hello and welcome!

Welcome Joe. 70?... 70 is the new 50. Great birthday present for yourself.
You absolutely should go on safari and a .338 would make a great plains game rifle.

Welcome to AH sir! Hunted Africa this past summer with a gent that is 75 and he did just fine. Don’t count yourself out!

A crook from ALBUQUERQUE owes me 700 Dollars. Please visit him and get my money. You can keep half of it. His name is JOSEPH MARSHALL III, a well-know author, Lakota from South Dakota.

Welcome to AH!

Welcome aboard Shootist. On AH I go by the moniker Shootist43. I went on my first African safari at age 73, my second at age 75. Any good outfitter will put you on game regardless of any physical limitations you may have. As long as you are still capable of shooting well, there is a way that you can hunt. Time(s) awaistin boy, get on the stick.

A warm welcome to you

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
