Just ran across this forum, and I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm 64, retired, and live on a small ranch in central Texas. I have never been to Africa and probably never will, but it's been a dream of mine since I was a child. As a young boy, I spent many sleepless nights under the blankets with a flashlight, reading books by or about J.A. Hunter, Robert Ruark, Fred Selous, Henry Stanley, Hemingway, Osa & Martin Johnson, Philip Percival, Harry Selby, Karamojo Bell, et. al. as well as memorizing the ballistics of every African cartridge known to man.

Since my safaris are limited to deer and maybe hogs around our place, I probably won't participate much here, but I humbly appreciate the opportunity to read the forums and other information on this wonderful site.

welcome to AH young fella .
enjoy this site ,mate .
and feel free to check out all the wonderfull ,exciting hunting reports , in the library .
and feel most welcome to ask or comment on anything you like , sir.
there is always someone on here that will only be to happy to answer .

Do a bit of research and you might find that a trip to Africa won't be quite as expensive as you might think. A guided elk, moose or bear hunt would probably cost more than a plains game hunt in Africa. Don't let the dream die. :)

You should go to DSC in january just to "window shop". Who knows, you might just score a really inexpensive auction trip or meet someone that you can go as an observer for not much more than a plane ticket. At least you can keep the dream alive. Timing is everything. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome, it is never to late to chase a dream amigo!

Welcome to AH.
That's a lot of reading you did.
I hope you can pull off a trip to Africa.

My apologies for not being clear. It is called the Dallas Safari Club convention and will be held jan 15 to 18th there will be several thousand booths with safari operators, taxidermists, vendors, gunmakers, ammunition manuf, etc. Costs less than $20 per day to browse. Maybe someone with more tech skills than I can post the link and also the Africa Hunting dinner information.

welcome to AH

your participation is what yo will have time for.

at 64 you will still have another 20 to 30 years to make the journey for a trip of a life time.

so make a plan as there are some great deals to be had on AH

There are singles and double hunter offerings to be considered and just maybe your child hood dreams could be reached.

if you need any assistance in looking or planning the group is here for support. No package is to large or to small for a hunter wanting to make the trip over the pond.

Welcome ,do a bit of research on this forum and make a plan to hunt Africa. It is good to have you here!

Hello and welcome! The more time you spend here, the more you're going to want to make those Africa dreams happen :) That is a wonderful thing! Hey, you've got a lot going for you. Retired and only 64, you're still just a young buck! Plenty of tread left on them tires :D
Whatever your dreams, I wish you success in realizing them (y)

Welcome to AH Ruark! Looking forward to your participation!

Welcome to AH Ruark! Hope to see you in Dallas in Jan.

Forgive me for being utterly clueless, but what is "DSC"?

Welcome Ruark, never say never! Info on our annual AH dinner that K-man referred to can be found here: http://www.africahunting.com/threads/ah-get-together-at-dsc-convention-2015.16531/

See, this is why you post and ask questions!

It might just lead to you meeting some of us in person, which might in turn lead to you hunting in Africa!!! :)

I'll be in Dallas and I know Phil will be too. We'd love to meet you! Heck, I met Phil in exactly this way last year!

Welcome to AH, Ruark !

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
