First of all, it is difficult to tell anything definitive from the photos. To me, it looks like a '98. The scope and claw mounts would indicate a between the wars gun - likely thirties. If there is no maker or vendor's name on the barrel, it is likely a guild gun - meaning it was built by a gunmaker not associated with one of the bigger companies in Suhl or elsewhere. Most of these - and they can be very fine firearms - are unmarked except for proof marks. The checkering and relief carving is very unusual for the period if it is indeed pre-war.

If the rifle lacks proof marks (other than original military), and I do not see them in your photography, then this rifle may have been built for an officer in the occupation forces in the years immediately after WWII. A guild maker would have used a military '98 as the basis of his work and all the relief carving would make more sense on an order placed by a non-German. These rifles often contain a mixture of styles that were common before the war. Interesting rifle. What caliber?

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
