First time going to DSC show

My daughter and I will be heading down. Never been to one before. We are planning on 1 full day and part of another. Is that enough time? Do you ever see rifles for sale? Other things for sale or is it more just looking and talking to outfitters? We can't wait. We will be like two kids in a candy store I am sure

A day and a half is enough to see the show, but you'll need to keep moving along. You'll see all sorts of things for sale from guns to clothing to knives to all sorts of things. I'd encourage you to visit the DSC website where you can download lots of info including a list of exhibitors.

We will look for you and say hello. Looking forward to it. We will be driving down early Saturday morning and spending the night then half day the next day before driving home. Would have been fun to make the dinner. Hopefully next year.

Would like to add to Phil's post. There are many things you can buy and walk out with such as clothes, binos, scopes, books and such. Keep in mind this is a hunting show, so most everything, not all, is for hunting purposes. If you are looking for handguns and ARs, there are only a few as compared to bolt and double guns. You can deal to buy any of the firearms, but cannot take them home. They have to be built (for the high end), then sent to your FFL, or just sent to your
FFL otherwise. A young friend of my son recently asked if you could buy things there. We told him you can spend from $20 to $300,000.00 and maybe more! Fully agree with your last statement! Very, very true!

Thanks. We will be looking for a bolt gun at the show. Will be nice to get to see them in person and put them up to the shoulder and not just orderering off the internet. Hopefully at least get an idea of the style and brand that feels the best.

Yea we can't wait. It will be a fun trip for us. We have 5 kids. All but two hunt. One goes along but does not want to shoot and the other is only 1. Wish the family was all going but father in law is in town. Wife really wanted to go. Maybe next year for her.

The gun shows around me are all about AR's, handguns and self defense vice hunting. Not that I don't enjoy that stuff; but hunting, fishing & being in the outdoors is much more enjoyable for me.

Agree with you that local "gun shows" at least in Arkansas and the Florida panhandle, where I currently live, concentrate on catering to armchair Rambos. Last local show I attended was around 97 or 98 in Little Rock. More power to the Rambos, but I'm not interested!

All of you that are going for the first time - you will be amazed and won't know which direction to start. Ann and I went every year 2011 - 2014. But haven't been back for a couple of years - we live in Florida.

Be systematic in covering the center. Figure out where the people you 'have to see' are located, make sure you see them. Then wander around and look at the sights. Also, use the time to get to know the outfitters on this website and any others you are considering hunting - nothing like looking someone in the eye when you ask your questions. Ann loved the taxidermy, artwork (paintings) and furs. Yes, cost me a vest last time we were there!

Let me suggest that you use the Expocad at the DCS web site. Pick the ones you don't want to miss. It will even let you make notes for each vendor and you can print out a must see list. Then just walk the rows and check off your must sees.

For us it was over whelming. To many people and seemed to be on the high end of stuff. For a truck driver from Arkansas I felt out of place. Seemed like you had to have the to talk with most of the vendors or outfitters.

Come back this year and go to the AH dinner. You will meet a lot of people so you can put faces to the screen names. And not everyone there has hunted Africa. I was in that boat until 3 weeks ago when I made my first hunt there. If you are interested in hunting Africa in the future, near or far time frame, you should be there!
