Double Tuskless Charge

So it's beginning to seem like those CMS shirts are like a bullseye for any animal that can kill you. That buff in the intro, the savannah buff that gored the guy in Cameroon, and now the tuskless female.

Heck, if anything, they sure do put you in the mix.

Sorry Buzz, you’re on your own on that one. These examples are probably why he does not hunt Tuskless anymore. Choosing the higher trophy fee hunts.

He built a name and reputation for himself and likes to specialize in big bulls with the days he hunts. He has that option now. His company still organizes a lot of tuskless hunts. If a past client he guided asked him to guide a tuskless I’m sure he would.

That was some great shooting in a stressful situation. Well done to both. Even Marty that tripped over some branches (stuff happens) did not give up fighting, and shot from the ground. Luckily all on tape, to have proof of the charges.

My thoughts too. I couldn’t imagine tripping in a situation like that but he still got a shot off and appears calm. Interesting to see Buzz look down and realize what happened before shooting the 2nd cow. It’s also incredible the camera man doesn’t flinch and gets that footage.

CMS definitely hunts tuskless but Buzz prefers the big bulls of course. As to cameramen not flinching, when I hunted tuskless with them, Buzz told the young apprentice that was filming to get good footage no matter what! His name was Guy and he did get good footage.

This hunt actually took place in 2022, Dan Macdonald filmed the hunt. I was sharing camp with Marty at the time….that helped me make up my mind that I would stick to hunting bulls instead of cows in the future.

I hunted tuskless in the valley back when rich tabor was a PH for CM. Killed a real nice old one on day 3. T snake was my camera man(hope a few guys know Justin). A good camera guy is like a second PH. Someday i will have to post pictures even though it was 10 years ago

I think in one scene, there was a female Game Ranger at the back of the file.

I thought he did great given the situation. He stoned the first one with one shot.

I can only imagine how big of an "oh crap" moment it must have been for him with a charging tuskless cow, 15 yds away, and he's on his back. He kept it together.

Well that got western in a hurry. Glad nobody was badly injured.

Out of curiosity, since he was on a tuskless hunt and killed a tusked ele, how does that work? If there's quota, he filled it? Handled differently because it was a charge?

Does CMS eat the cost of the 2nd ele since it was a charge and they shot first? Client also shot, so does he split trophy cost?

Justin was phenomenal. Worth every penny having along and was like a 2nd ph/set of eyes/ friend. He's amazing.

Don't quote me but I believe that's the point of having the gov scout with you at all times aswell. Being charged etc and PH having to shoot for self defense can be justified.

Agreed. But having empirical video evidence is one step better.

Well done to all involved. That tuskless took three to the head and wasn't done. Anyone rethinking the double vs magazine rifle because of this?

I see your point, but Buzz got off 2 shots in 3 seconds - however @6:30 you can see where the 2nd shot hit low in the trunk inline with the mouth so certainly not fatal but it slowed her.

Im not sure where Martys last shot hit but I thought that made the elephant turn. It was absolutely in the nick of time as both big rifles were winchester on ammo at the time! I was very impressed by Marty to be honest, it doesn't get much closer than that to there being a fatality.

Marty made a great first shot on the first bull. He must not have immediately reloaded. Because he only shot once on the second cow. Lucky that second cow stopped its charge from Buzz’ two shots. Because they were both out of ammo.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
