I’ve flown Delta One to Europe a couple times. Service and food were pretty good and the lounge at JFK is nice but I always felt it was a bit overpriced. When planning our upcoming trip to RSA, I looked into it again from ATL. At the time it was $9k per ticket so I landed my sons and me in Premium Select and turned on the Google flight tracker in case prices went down. I thought I might upgrade. Well as you can see, that didn’t happen. These tickets graduated from overpriced to absurd. Who buys this flight?!?

People flying for work, who are spending someone else's money.

90%, maybe even 95% of business class seats the world over are sold this way. Its not just Delta.

On a related note, I've found google flights to be less than worthless, most travel agencies as well.

Two days ago, I was looking at Denver to Reno Flights on United and Southwest for the end of June, for a 3 to 4 day trip, they were ranging from $770 to almost $900, for economy seats, for a 2 hour flight. I would argue that's just as crazy as $20k to fly half way around the world.

I looked again today, and if I fly one carrier each way, its down to about $600 total. Google flights/AI whatever Bull#!t the tech companies are currently pushing isn't going to find that type of thing for you. A travel agent could, if you give them very specific instructions and very flexible terms, but you're going to pay for it. Often more than you would save.

If it makes you feel better, I just booked DEN-MIA for 7 days at the end of September for $283, apparently United thinks the war will be over by then and fuel prices will be back to normal. I'll add premium economy seats at some point so that will bump the price up closer to $400, but that's about what I paid last May for the same trip.

If you're serious about saving some money, you should be checking prices, yourself, at least once a day. The airlines are constantly adjusting prices, often several times a day, if oil prices are down that day/hour flight prices will be too.

Good counsel. I ended up using some points and global upgrade certificates to get all three of us in Premium Select for a total out of pocket of $330. We can have a little less recline for $60k. lol

Turkish business class is a breath of fresh air. Reasonable prices, excellent service to the point that they have an actual chef on board. Seats are very similar to Delta One, perhaps a bit better.

They started flying from Denver to Istanbul recently, I'm comparing them against United through Newark for my trip to SA next may. Both are Star Alliance carriers, so my United points/status work with Turkish as well. Going through Istanbul is WAY out of my way, but it looks like it will cheaper and I've heard almost unanimously good things about Long Haul Turkish Business class. United, not so much.

I booked Delta Comfort for June 2026 trip back in August 2025. $3200 round trip with an upgrade to First Class on my domestic leg from IAH to Atlanta.
Today that same ticket is $7900.
Glad I booked the week it opened up for my dates back in August.

Since I live in Georgia, I try to fly Delta when I can because I usually have many options with them, frequent flyer, etc., but I'm not going to pay a stupid price.

If you are going hunting and taking rifles, I would pay a bit more and put Gracy Travel or Travel Express to work for me. Get acquainted with an agent. (I like Shawn with Gracy, but I'm sure all of their agents are good).

Use KAYAK to search for flights, because you might catch something they miss.

When you find a deal, Gracy or Travel Express can book it for you or tell you why that flight is not good for a hunter. Their concierges in JNB can really help with gun/ammo issues.

If you have a little time, just let them be on the lookout for a deal, so that you don't have to monitoring it all the time.

Occasionally, flights get much cheaper all of a sudden for no apparent reason. I'd rather pay someone else that be monitoring the internet.

My brother and I bought our Delta premium economy + tickets late July last year. We paid $6,600 for the tickets. Now when I look those tickets are selling for over $9,000! I've been wanting to up grade my ticket to Delta one, but they want $4,700 just for the upgrade one way from Atlanta to Johannesburg!

Certain days of the week are more expensive than others. I booked a delta one flight to Africa 2 weeks ago and paid less than half that amount. You can look at the flight and see how many open seats their are in first class and if there is still a substantial number the price is going to drop closer to the time you want to leave.

That’s more than I’ve paid for some lots of land ( 5.5 acres) each with road access and power access.
If prices were half that I’d stick to buying land lol

We are traveling in June and I found the same thing when I booked in December. Luckily I had piles of AMEX points and some Global Upgrade certificates to get us in Premium Select with almost nothing out of pocket.

Wow my brother and I paid the same price for Emirates business class and you did for premium economy. That’s crazy.

Recently traveled Delta One for the first time. I don’t consider myself a big guy, but found my shoulders were too wide for me to lie on my back with the seat all the way down. Overall it was better than not getting to lie down in a red eye flight, but don’t know if I’ll pay for it again.

I too have flown Turkish Air b-class several times and agree it is quite good for the price. One bit of caution though, the flights with the 787 Dreamliner have the excellent seats. The flights with the B-777 have the 2-3-2 configuration that is okay, but not as good as the "pods" on 787.

When flying Delta to JNB, I have toughed it out in Premium, not will to pay the sky high price for Delta One.

I flew Delta Premium Economy for just under $2000 in 2022, checked for June they were $9k each.
These were double that the next year when we went in August '23

On United, it's cheaper to fly from Dulles (D.C.) to Joburg changing planes in Newark, than it is from Newark to Joburg, same plane, same flight if you book either way. Tell me that makes sense.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,
