I picked up an unfired Dakota 76 the other day, I would like to have a couple things done to the rifle, mostly just iron sights added and the barrel floated. I like the Dakota sights, so I thought I would call them about sending the rifle back to them, but I can't get anyone to answer and also can't leave a message. Does anyone know if they are completely out of business? Or maybe have a contact with them.

I thought that they were still open. Guess I don't know for sure after the Remington bankruptcy..... If I get over that way I may have to stop and see. Could be a while tho. Just went to Rapid a week ago... Perhaps someone else has better info.

This is indeed extremely fortunate . I have hunted an American Kodiak bear with a Dakota Model 76 ( a .416 Remington Magnum ) . They truly were magnificent pieces of American workmanship .

I've only had this one two days, and I am already trying to buy another. I have found one in 400 H&H, I never wanted one until I found out they are now longer making them.

LOL I was trading e-mails with them during the holidays and they were quite keen on collecting a hefty deposit for a gun (which I held off on, for obvious reasons!) Great guns. Have NECG in NH install your sights (they'll likely do the floating too, but bedding the action and barrel channel has made many a gun super accurate.) A-Sq did the same for all of their guns (I have 2 and they are amongst the most accurate in the lot!) It's a shame many things are advertised as "best" more recently, as it's just to save a buck.

Remington owns them. Did they just shutter the brand?

They are in big trouble, due mainly to the advent of the X-mark pro trigger. LOL I noticed on my Son's 300 Win Mag that it was big trouble, so prior to replacing it with a Timney (it's just a factory gun or i'd go Jewell,) 'set it to the desired pull and then epoxy'ed it in that position. (they failed to state that in the manual.) LOL I never liked factory Rem guns. They always needed hot-rodding (the fun part.)

Have you seen the beautiful 416 Rigby in the classifieds?

bedding barrel channels will only improve accuracy if something else is wrong.
it is one of the zigs that can sometimes help with a zag.
far better to fix the zag (usually bedding by someone who does not understand requirements).
proper bedding allows free floating which does away with zero shift due to differing hold and resting.

Sorry to hear that they are finally, definitively, out of business. I knew Don Allen and met Pete Grisel at his Oregon shop where is had started to produce what later became the Dakota 76 action. Don's rifles were, and are, impressive for a 'production' rifle. His death was untimely and a great loss to hunters and shooter everywhere.

If anyone has one... I am looking for ANY Dakota LH action.

Well, this is sad. Their website is still active, so I assumed they survived the Remington breakup. I was ready to order a model 10. I'll hang on to my excellent model 97.

Did you shoot the gun first?? Don't fix it if it's not broken! It could even be FL bedded (which are shooters in my experience!) Floating isn't always an enhancement.

they might shoot sometimes, but they won't hold zero and shoot away from rests.

I don't believe that's true. I bought a Rem 700 BDL in 270 Win in 1968. The only thing I ever did to it was put a Declerator recoil pad on it and have Norm Thompson work on the trigger and set it to 2 1/4 lbs. Shot crows at 300 yards with it, killed a couple of dozen elk, more deer and 9 bears with it. My son has it now. Still shoots nickel sized groups at 100 yards

With a wood stock, I want them floated.

Hi Bob, how's things going in Wyong?. Down your way a couple of years back but haven't been in NSW since Ebor for the fishing. just getting over some nasty storms up here in Qld, seeing the sun for the first time in a few days. I'm going to NZ in the spring and hope to clean up a few buns while there and perhaps shake the spiders out of my old .303LE (currently owned by my BIL). Cheers Brian

Heard you may have load data for the 500 Jeffery,.....any info would be appreciated. Was thinking 535gr, but already had a response that the 570gr would be a better way to go, not sure why.
