Concealed Carry

Mat Best of BRCC covers it!

I carry a PPK with a laser grip. I would not carry anything that did not have a hammer. That way I know when the gun is hot. My eyes are too bad to be looking for a red dot know know if hot or not. And I will never carry a Glock.

The Walther PPK/S in 380 is a nice size gun for CC and just a classic gun. The one drawback is that's it's one of the hardest guns to rack.

Pretty easy to chamber check any gun, and the fact that hammer is back does not mean the gun has one in the chamber (e.g. insert mag after racking the gun).

I've gone back and re-read this entire thread, since I have more time during the CV issue. While this discussion was mainly discussing guns, I'd like to ask folks about IWB vs OWB carry and holster options. I have not CC yet, but have bought a variety of autos and revolvers over the years. IWB, to me, looks uncomfortable. OWB is less concealed. I am actually thinking about trying a Kramer MSP paddle type holster, although it's a bit pricey. https://www.kramerleather.com/products/msp-paddle-holster

I. While this discussion was mainly discussing guns, I'd like to ask folks about IWB vs OWB carry and holster options.

I am not a fan of using the waste band. Setting down, driving, it is uncomfortable. I am also a shirt tucked in type of guy. I generally wear cargo pants or shorts everywhere except to church. A pocket holster in the cargo pocket works great for me.

Just another idea to consider.

The Walther PPK/S in 380 is a nice size gun for CC and just a classic gun. The one drawback is that's it's one of the hardest guns to rack.

I have just purchased a Sig p238. Both my wife and her youngest sister find it very easy to rack the slide. Have gotten a De Santis pocket holster for it. Seems to work well, so far.

In the past times (read younger), and especially when I was doing the gun games with a 1911, I did IWB with a full size 1911.

A MILT Sparks Summer Special II is my favorite IWB holster. 511 pants (Flex something waist band) and a 1.5" MILT Sparks gunbelt helped make it work (very well for me).

I never felt like I could CCW IWB successfully unless I wore a longer/ heavier covering garment than I wanted to.

These days I'm very comfortable with an Airweight Smith J Frame in a front pants pocket ( and in a Pocket Holster). And I'm practically never without it, plus two reloads in Bianchi Speed Strips, wearing the same 511 pants, and same Sparks gunbelt.

Pants are still loose enough that I can do IWB with the 1911 - or something a little more modern (a Walther PPQ), should I feel the need.

A good gun belt ( sized appropriately) is mandatory for both IWB or OWN carry.

Ugh on the auto spell check. Suffice to say that IWB carry works better than you might think.

I'm pretty boring when it comes to concealed carry, I carry a Glock 23 but I "cheat" and carry a 38 in my pocket for those days when I really don't want to carry a gun.
I tend to choose ammo like I do for rifles, heavier for caliber. 180gr Sabers at the moment.

So, what condition do you/wife carry your P238 in you pockets? (Cocked & Locked, Hammer down on and empty chamber, ...)
Please note, I am not asking to judge you, just asking for my information since my wife has a P238.
Thanks

Excellent question. We are still discussing this. I'd like some input as well.

I wish I could get a decent LH paddle holster for my HK VP9. All I seem to be able to find is Alien Gear, and that paddle sucks. I used to have a nice LH Safariland paddle when I had my Sig P220.

I carry my VP9 in a custom leather holster OWB. In warm weather, I wear guayabaras, Hawaiian prints, or baggy t-shirts. I also carry in church, but I always wear a blazer to church, so I'm covered there, too.

VP9 is a fairly large pistol, but I'm 6'6" and about 235#, so I have lots of extra room to hide a pistol.

Although very unpopular with all but those who are truly experienced and comfortable with their guns, I carry a Ruger LCP in my pocket (desantis or similar pocket holster)all the time, chambered and cocked (recessed hammer) with no safety. Been doing it for 15yrs with out an issue. Due to disc problems in my back I can't carry on a belt in any fashion comfortably and I have a general dislike of blazers or most other cover up wear so this is the best option for me. When carrying something like this, it is only for a true self defense situation and there won't be time to waste racking a slide IMO.

That looks like it would work. The nice thing about the Safariland I used to have is the outside of the paddle was covered in suede, and there was a hook on the inside of the holster (the part next to your pants, not actually inside the holster) that would catch on the bottom of your belt. That holster only came out when I wanted it out. Stayed put with every draw. With the belt loop on this one, looks like it's going to stay put as well.

The bad thing about the Alien Gear one...the paddle is designed to be worn outside the pants. That's a real PITA. Putting it on or taking it off was no different than every other OWB holster on the market (unless you didn't care if you tore a belt loop off).

I carry everyday my GLOCK 19 GEN 4, 15x bullet Mag in a paddle holster, via a wide belt and on my right hip.
This does necessitate wearing my shirt "untucked" and hanging loose, but I'm cool with this.
In winter, my jacket covers the set up.

After much discussion we are thinking of round in chamber, hammer on half-cock and safety on. My wife is not comfortable with the cocked and locked method. Given the type of threats we most likely would face, this is probably best for us. I'm not sure what method wife's sister will use.

@Bruce why do you use a paddle holster vs. a OWB? Is is the easy on/easy off? Does a paddle ride about the same as an OWB?
