Chamois hunting - New Zealand

That makes me want to go back to New Zealand!
Thanks for sharing such magnificent country!

That was a long shot sir. Good try!

Beautiful country! What part of NZ was this? Very impressive DIY hunt.

Thanks for sharing! Makes me want to get back there soon!

I really enjoyed that! Thanks(y)

Thanks for sharing. I will be heading back to NZ in May and Chamois will be hunted.

Thanks for sharing, that was a far shot....

Great video, thanks for sharing.

I see quite a few sand flies buzzing around the screen.
I certainly don't miss them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They weren't sandflies luckily, not sure what they were, but they weren't interested in biting me thankfully.

:A Way To Go:
Any time spent in the N.Z bush free of sandflies is Golden.

Again, great video.
My only experience of Arthurs is having crossed it in the train from Greymouth (I think) to Ch'church in the middle of Winter.
Train was delayed for four hours when we had to stop and build a fire on the tracks as they had frozen.
Gorgeous scenery. Beautiful country.

Thanks for the post. What awesome footage.
Beautiful country and some fantastic people.
My wife and are looking forward to being back in 2019.
What caliber and rifle are you using?

What caliber and rifle are you using?

It is a Blaser K95 in 7x65R . 7x65R is the rimmed version of the 7x64 and very similar to a .280. It shoots a 162 a-max at 2750fps.

What part of NZ are you heading to, and what animals are you after?

Out of Wanaka , Glen Lyon station , close to Mt Cook.
I’m taking my 280 Remington with 160 grain trophy bonded bullet.
Hunting for another Tahr and most likely a red stag.
And of course some awesome fly fishing for those amazing trout.
Maybe a black swan will have to see.
Adding a week on the end just to tour the South Island.

Sounds like a great trip. Funny hearing of someone wanting to hunt swan, so use to seeing them around you don't think of people coming here to hunt them.

I enjoyed your video a lot.
Thanks.

How do you find your K95? I’m seriously thinking about getting a single shot rifle and K95 is at the top of the list right now. I’ve got another Blaser - R8 and am quite happy with it though I prefer the cocking device of my Krieghoff and so their Hubertus is second on my list.

Lovely country you hunt in, it would definitely keep you fit!

I've only had it a few months, but I love it. The ability to take it to pieces and put it back together and retain zero is amazing. They are a very accurate rifle too, easily sub MOA and often 0.5 MOA with not too much load development. I'm impressed with the 7x65R as well. I've had 7mm mag, 7 SAUM and 7 RUM so am a 7mm man. I had considered a 7x57R but felt the 7x65R gave me a bit more for the alpine country I hunt.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
