Botswana Elephants

Congratulation on a great hunt, I like the 450NE double use. But most importantly the felt in the heart experience with the people!

Haven't been to Botswana yet but it is on the list.

You will love it

Congratulations on some fantastic animals and an incredible adventure. :D Cheers:

Such a great experience. For me. To read about how the safari affected you so sincerely.

Congratulations.

Congrats on a great hunt with a couple of serious elephants! Classic rifles = classic safaris, IMO...

Fantastic write up. The best part is experiencing the people that reminds us we are all endowed with the love of our Creator.

The trophies taken with such a classic rifle are not bad either!

Well done, congrats :D Cheers:

100% agree. I got to share the gospel with the school children.

congratulations on some beautiful trophies and lifetime memories!!!!!

When I left for Botswana, I thought this trip would be about elephant hunting and my favorite double rifle. I took my 1901 John Rigby & Co. .450 Nitro Express Rising Bite, and over the course of the safari I was blessed to take two elephant and two buffalo. The rifle performed flawlessly, including two frontal elephant shots at less than 23 yards. Yet somewhere along the way, the hunt became about something far greater than the animals themselves.

What I will remember most are the people. The kindness of the Sankoyo people, their pride in their land, and their genuine excitement for every success made a lasting impression on me. I watched entire communities celebrate not the trophies, but the meat that would feed families. Seeing the joy and gratitude on their faces transformed my perspective. What began as a pursuit of game and trophies became a lesson in community, stewardship, and the deep connection between people and the wildlife that surrounds them.

One of the greatest privileges of the trip was visiting the local school and speaking to the students. Being able to encourage them, hear their dreams, and spend time with the next generation of this great land was every bit as meaningful as any moment in the field. I arrived in Botswana expecting an adventure centered on hunting, but I left with something deeper, sweeter, and far more valuable—a profound appreciation for the people, the culture, and the remarkable spirit of a land I have grown to love…AFRICA

The essence of exercising dominion over creatures, as given by our Creator.

Giving crucially needed protein to those less fortunate, to enhance the diet of villagers and their children, is the ultimate mission.

I am blessed to have witnessed this firsthand in rural Acadiana as a teenager that moved from the big city to the farmlands.

Food is our human conduit to connect our beings.

And taking a large bull elephant is cool as well!

As an R&D Chef of 34 years, reared on the farm, I am fascinated to see the villagers butcher the animal, carve the meat, and haul it away to the locals.

If a 10000-pound bull elephant has 40% yield edible portions
(? please correct me)
, that is 80 Africans to carry 50 pounds of meat each, for miles.

In perspective, foodservice workers in Las Vegas unions would require 3 times the people with breaks every 3 hours carrying less weight.

Some people (most) need to be reminded of hunting, food preparation and survival.

Amen to that - what a gift to have the opportunity to take such majestic creatures. I am set for a ele hunt this Sept in Caprivi . It will be my first .....will keep you posted
Best of luck. Be patient

I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
