Any ideas what a Jeffery 450/400 box lock double rifle would be worth?

With no pictures and only the information you've given...not much.

Somewhere between 5-10% of the cost of a house.

Of course the next logical question is, what sort of house? But that cannot be reasonably determined until (as pointed out above) there are some details on the configuration and condition of the Jeffery under consideration.

In Europe I would say US$ 12.000 - 16.000 depending condition.. Double rifles are overpriced in the US, but prices are falling..

A Jeffery double rifle is (usually) a sound boxlock made in Birmingham...Jeffery´s firm was more of a sales office.. I say usually because Jeffery also had a few sidelocked rifles made..

Maybe, maybe not. Is it a typical production rifle made for the trades, or is it a "Best"? Bespoke? Engraving? Wood? In need of work or ready to hunt? I see those in higher grades asking from $40-80k. Then there some in the mid-$20k range, and finally others in the $12-15k range. And I know that with persistence, they can be found at lower cost. Of course, then you take a chance on condition (although frankly, I would recommend sending it to one of the double-rifle experts for an evaluation).

Go to one of the major auction sites and look at prices realized vs. asking prices. There's one on GunsInternational for $12.5k that's been listed for at least six years now; no buyers. The same seller had another at about the same time (fully gone through and reblacked, according to the listing) for $14k, which is no longer listed, so I'm guessing that perhaps it finally sold. Check the "sold" prices on GunBroker or one of the major auction houses for something similar in age, configuration, and condition to what you seek.

Otherwise, it's like comparing apples to "fruit."

The gun is nicely engraved with leather trunk and makers label. The screws are not buggered, the gun does not appear to have been reconditioned. The bores look good and the gun seems tight. Beyond that all I have is a serial number and have tried contacting Jeffery in the US. The seller is local and I can shoot the gun.

Post some pics.
