She is a beauty. I hope her new owner sends her back to Rigby for a little "restoration." However if someone just wanted a working rifle, this would be an excellent buy as is.

Thanks Foxi, Historical info on the old "African" guns is one of the reasons many of us are here!

It's a nice gun, but as with all things Rigby, just another makers gun re-branded to Rigby and quadrupled in price. Rigby had a great team of finishers, but gunmakers, no. Face lift/restoration at Rigby would involve them outsourcing the work to probably 3 local UK guys.

Call me crazy, but as I see it, the only still standing UK gunmaker of any skill, in-house production, ingenuity and integrity, is Westley Richards.

Purdey, Watson Bros., David MacKay (spelling..) There are still a few out there...not sure about Holland&Holland anymore though...

And I wholeheartedly agree about Westley Richards.....I hope they will continue in the same fashion after Simon Clodes death..

I agree Pondoro, Westley Richards is a one of a kind, even though I have been a Rigby lover since I found out what a Rigby was. They have no competitors in my opinion. I would own several of them if I had deep pockets, and may still own one of their post WWII guns someday. I don't know Trigger well, but I know L D McCaa very well and suspect the company has another 100 years or so to remain as the world's #1 gunmaker!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
