What is the preferred holder for carrying spare rounds in the bush. Here at home I prefer a leather folding wallet (for lack of a better term) that slides onto my Pants belt and holds 10 rounds separately and silently.

Murry leather makes nice ones, also Trader Keith, which I think I like more. But honestly, most of the time I just drop a few extra round in my pocket, the carrier is really only a must when in DG territory.

I use ones from Murray leather. I always carry a 10 round but be will make any size, round count or calibers you want. I am a firm believer in never run out of bullets. When hog hunting at home I usually carry 15-20 rounds and it’s not abnormal for me to use the majority of those.

I personally carry 3 rounds in the rifle. I have never used more than two before I can get back to camp or the truck. I carry water, a snack and a couple survival items in a pack and that’s it. I like to walk and stalk and sit a bit, then move so I don’t need the extra weight. Carrying a shotgun for birds is a different story. My bird vest has elastic shell holders for 12, that is full, plus 3 in the gun. This is usually not enough to limit on 5 partridge as I am a lousy shot with shotgun!

For my PG rifle, I made a 10 cartridge leather wallet. Was a fun project to do and I wear it on my belt. However, I carry 5 cartridges in a buttstock carrier for a faster top off if ever needed, then reload the buttstock carrier from the wallet when time permits. For a buffalo hunt next year I plan to use a belt slide carrier which I've been practicing with.

Murray also makes a fine culling belt. Mine holds 10 rounds I believe. Not an essential item, but it sure looks cool.

At home in Canada I have gun full and a spare full mag in pack, two shots and normally done for couple days for packing. But in Africa I have the Cabelas canvass/nylon snap close 10 round belt carriers, one for each caliber. Somewhat a PIA when on a 2 gun safari, must ensure carrier on belt always matches what guns in hand. I must say I have emptied gun and depleted half a belt carrier in one day on Safari. Baits are fun to shoot, when task is filling Toyota. The nylon carriers work well for me, they are quiet, easy to access and "cheap", leaving more TF dollars.

My .300 wm shoots them amazing well and I love their performance on game-BUT when I was in africa the same rifle was shooting the original Trophy Bonded Bear Claw-
When I go next trip it will be tbbc in my old -06 and A frame for my .375 wby-always hand loads.
i test 3-4 bullets in each rifle until I find the one that performs the best and that’s what I use-but I do have favorites!

I have tried a wide variety over 70 years seriously hunting big game. Still change occasionally depending on where and what I am hunting and the weather. Dick Murray makes a variety of first class ammo holders. When hunting buffalo or elephant I prefer his open one carried at mid waist on a separate belt so i can reach a round quickly with either hand. I keep a Leatherman and a small compact head net on that belt. I like being able to take it off when ever i feel like it or need to drop trousers for various reasons. I often hunt in heavy Tsetse fly country so like a handy head net to keep the Fly at bay during a noon snooze or when Fly get thick close to a big herd of buff, i wrap it back around my ears and neck. I am a whimp when the Tsetse get thick and vicious.

Loops above the left shirt pocket for four rounds. I like moving clean with the absolute minimum around my waist or around my neck. Pocket binos in the thigh pouch of my trousers. You really appreciate having no add-ons when you need to leopard crawl as I did in Scotland for my stag.

In Africa I use ammo slides. I like Murray’s slides. However I have switched to ones made for me from my buffalo leather by Collett’s Wildlife Artistry in Bulawayo and Pretoria. CWA always has a bunch along in his booth at DSC if you want to have a look. I haven’t used Trader Keith’s, but everything I have bought from him has been first class. I’m sure his slides are no exception.

I use a Murray Cartridge Belt to carry a few extra rounds of premium softs and a couple of solids if the PH says to load them. I also use it to carry extra rounds for my wife, even if I'm not hunting and just observing. Being able to take it off when you get in the bakkie is really nice vs having a belt slide.

My wife uses a Galco Safari Five. I had it modified the to remove the top flap and bottom clasp, sanded flush, stained and burnished.

I have found the one's from Dick Murray and Jeff's Outfitters serve me best. It amazes me how Murray's kit arrives like it was already broke in for you. No stiff and creaky leather. Trader Keith sells really good kit as well. They sell the only sling I use now with the exception of a traditional style sling I use on the dreiling and I got that sling from Jeff's.

I never thought these words would come from me, but that is a good looking Blaser! I am laughing but the compliment is serious. I had to blow up the photo to confirm it is a Blaser.

I kinda like the plastic sleeves that come holding federal ammo . They hold ten rounds and are easy to cut down to hold five or however many you want. I'd probably go with a leather one on my belt for dangerous game.

I prefer a separate culling belt. Half loaded with softs and half solids for smaller delicate game. It also carries a knife and a Leatherman (mainly used to pull acacia thorns!) It is easy to put on and take off.
I also like wearing a safari vest which has cartridge carriers on the left chest (I’m right handed).
I used a cartridge carrier on my pants belt, but it was always binding when sitting in the bakkie. The separate culling belt either slips up so it doesn’t bind, or unbuckles and comes off while riding around.

I am a fan of small fanny / waist packs. My packs have a separate small zipper pouch that hits you like a belt wallet style cartridge carrier would. I'm not shooting and then running after game - that's how people get shot - so take your time to reload and evaluate the situation unless the animal is dragging it's hide quarters.

That being said, I'd have that a little more accessible if hunting something dangerous.
