375 HH double question

why if 375 HH is considered bad for a double do you see so many out there. It seems like at this point it might actually be one of the most prevalent double rifle calibers ever chambered. You see it from the top makers HH, Purdey, heym ect you see it in English guns, German, and Austrian . It spans from old guns all the way up to new guns in all categories from 11k chapuis to 250k best sidelock. Is the 375 hh rimless problem overblown? is the difference in pressure a real issue?

Or is it more of a " this could be and issue" therefore the internet has been deemed wrong?

I seem to recall the chapuis rep on here posting in the big iphisi thread that they have never had a 375hh returned for an issue.

it's not so much rimless are 'Bad' for a double. or not functional.
The timeless Rimmed version with its simplicity are desirable, traditional, peerless, unsurpassable and perfect. nothing more nothing less.

I think the 375 H&H flanged ( rimmed ) magnum is a superb double rifle cartridge . I would never consider the belted rimless version in a double rifle .

I also don’t know that the 375HH was “actually be one of the most prevalent double rifle calibers ever chambered.” I’d bet not…but it is one most often seen in today’s market, in part because they seem to languish unsold while proper rimmed cartridges from similar makers pop up and sell more quickly.

The rimless requires additional, small, moving parts and ones that historically were prone to premature wear and require attention/replacement. That doesn’t mean that the rifle will absolutely fail, and may not even ever require attention at all, but it is an unnecessary failure point that is dispensed with altogether if using a rimmed cartridge.

Having a 375 Flanged Mag I can say it’s awesome.

I'm not a fan of rimless catridges to be used in doubles or any other break-downs and would not buy one. However, there is one good point to use a rimless .375 in a double and that's good availability of ammo in Africa.

As much as I love the 375 Flanged Mag and prefer against the rimless H&H version, the one wonderful thing about the less favored H&H version is at times you can get a true deal on one, maybe step into a rifle you’d never want to pay for if it were in a proper double cartridge.

Heyms are a good example, where you’d see the H&H versions come up and languish at 30-50% the price of a 450/400 or 470. I’ve seen a couple Holland and Holland Royals in 375 H&H at nice discounts and makes me pause and think. Just like odd-ball cartridges by today’s ammo/brass availability, there are potential headaches, but discounts on the flip side as well. BUT…you have the expect the same if you ever decide to part with the rifle yourself. Expect it to take additional time and discount to move it.
