Alchemist, you are quite the guy, always willing to help. Does your newly acquired 300 Win Mag complete your allowable rifle battery? I thought SA had a limit of three rifles per individual unless you could prove the need for more. I have several Sako (s) but no Tikka (s). I think they are made in the same factory.

I've been working with RSA's own Peregrine bullets lately. You might want to give them a go as I'd guess they're much less expensive than the American products you're buying. And they provide lots of reloading info for the Somchem powders you have access too.

    Hi Shootist43
Thought you are busy planning your next trip. As Occasional Hunter you are allowed 4 firearms of which one can be a self defense weapon. I am registered as a Dedicated Hunter, which means I need to do an extra proficiency test and practical exam. This way I am allowed more thatn the 4 weapons, as long as I can write a motivation for each. My collection so far
    .22 LR - target pratice
.243 Win - small to medium animals open plains
6.5x55 SE Small to medium - Bushveld
30-06 Medium to Large - Bushveld
    .375 H&H Large Bushvel
    12 G - Wingshooting / Bushpig
.357 Mag - Self defense / Bacup for Bush pig
The 300 Win Mag is motivated for medium/large open plains and Kalahari

The tikka is a nice rifle, it is light to carry and extremely accurate.
    Regards

    Hi Phoenix Phil
I am using Peregrine on my .243 Win ( 80gr VRG4) and .375 H&H. The .375 H&H is developed for 300gr bushmaster( VRG3) as well as 230gr ( VRG4) plainsmaster. They are extremely accurate and Peregrine assistance in developing loads are really good.
I have not hunted with them yet as I have a supply of Noslers :)

Oh good. Perhaps you can comment in my thread I have going for the loads I'm working on for my .300WM. Particularly in regards to how I'm prepping my brass which is different with the Peregrines.

The Peregrine bullet diameter is exact, hence it feeling loose in some brass. You can either use an universal deprimer and then using a necksizing/full sizing die with the decapping pin and expander ball removed. The neck will then be the correct size for the Peregrine bullet.
. You can also substitute the decapping pin and expander ball of the .300 die with a smaller caliber to remove and size simultaneously.
I had the same issue with the 243 and 6.5 but not with the .375H&H. This solution was passed on by a PH friend that swears by Peregrine
    Hope this helps.

Well, I am actually thinking about my next African hunt. My oldest son is an AH and SCI member. In January the Kansas City Chapter is having their annual exhibition. One of the "auction items" is a PG hunt for two. We are intending to participate in that auction. We might get lucky, who knows.

Just be sure to read the fine print and learn as much as you can about the outfitter before you bid.

Good advice. I certainly do not want to be caught in the same predicament as a new AH Member recently posted.

I use to buy the Remington Safari Grade with the Swift A-Frame to for several caliber guns, but they quit making them about 2 years ago. Swift is now producing their own line of ammo, so that is an option now for us A-Frame lovers. It's soon to be available at Midway, USA.

I also get some custom ammo which isn't too outrageously priced from Hendershots. They offer a lot of premium bullet options (https://hendershots.net/custom-ammo/ )

I hunted Africa and American elk with a Fedetal 180 grain Trophy Copper with great success. Shot a Kudu at 360 yards one shot in the neck africa+1016+camera+479.jpeg
