Stupid CZ Question!

I wish they would. I think those features would be well received by many.

Why Hasn’t Winchester ever made a model 70 with a double square bridge receiver? I know it would cost more but I would pay it, just like cz buyers would pay a little more for the above upgrades on a factory rifle

You could also ask why neither Winchester Repeating Arms, the U.S. Repeating Arms Company nor Fabrique National have marketed a true short-action sporting/varmint/target rifle? The WSSM action is perfectly suited for the task and at least one rifle action was built up (under the FNH label) in 5.56x45 chambering, according to my recollection.
Some projects are too expensive and some get lost in marketing (i,e. internal political) blind spots.

Just send your CZ to AHR and boom, all your dreams are answered. All it takes is money and time.
I don’t think we will ever see a production rifle again that is affordable and has all the things we desire which leaves us spending money at the gun smith to get as close as possible. I think Rigby has done as close as we will see to perfect with their Highland Stalker and Big Game but far from the cost of a CZ. I just hope I live long enough to see one of each in my safe.

My sling stud bit me on my third or fourth shot with my .416 Rigby CZ. I muttered something about barrel bands at the time as the blood blister started to appear!

Action lengths and designs etc are all down to money. As time passes money seems to get more important and quality less so. Look at a 1960's car, rifle, house or most other things for that matter and compare it to a new build anything - new stuff is rubbish. It's built cheap, sold cheap and we expect cheap. Go back 50 years and our parents expected to pay seriously good money for day to day items apart from maybe houses, now they're disposable!

Plus one for the features and the rifles.
It seems like we all want that Classic look. Something nostalgic about it.
I’ve read some and asked questions about the barrel band with varying answers. I don’t have one on my CZ’s but fits with my vision of a classic safari rifle.
Anyway I’m hiring on my once in a lifetime or first African Safari for simplicity. I was offered a great deal and can’t wait!

Why doesn’t CZ make the 550 American Safari Magnum with a barrel band sling stud, 3 position safety and a single stage standard trigger?

They would sell millions!
AND, proper stock bedding from the factory for a heavy recoil rifle. I would pay extra for these items. If they did these things as a matter of mass produced rifle manufacturing, the cost would be reasonable. But then you wouldn’t have to send your rifle to AHR or somewhere else and pay half to twice (or) more than what you paid for your rifle for the upgrades! I’m sure the aftermarket upgrades are great, but at what cost? Will one be able to recoup even some of the cost when eventually selling that rifle? I guess I’m just a cheap b••••••!

This is kind of my point. Manufacturer cost is way different than aftermarket. The trigger would likely be cheaper. The safety would cost some for development and the barrel band adds some cost too. All that said, my guess is they could be profitable by increasing price under $100. Their sales should jump too.

The bedding is tougher as it might take more time. That is where the aftermarket shines, but who knows....they are creative maybe there is a way to bed and ship!

Funny story about fore-end mounted sling studs.

My custom built .500 MDM has the stud in the fore-end, something I've not worried about in the past as it never bothered me.

One day I set about cleaning up some mobs of horses.
I'd got on to one herd and as my usual practice identified and took out the stallions main mare which keeps the stallion and the remainder of the herd circling nearby allowing the entire mob to be cleaned up (culling).

I'd shot the entire mob and saved the stallion for last as he kept returning within range. As he approached to within 50 yds i'd taken a rest on a nearby branch by grasping the branch with my hand and resting the rifle on top of my hand.
Taking bead on the center of his chest I fired my round and watched him collapse to the ground.

I then heard a drip on the tip of my boot, looked down and saw a sizeable fresh drop of blood on my boot. My first thought was that it may have been the stallion's blood and I was amazed I cold get blood splatter from 50yds until I heard another drop and then another !
When I looked at my leading hand there was a neatly cut, stud shaped peace of meat missing from the top of my forefinger where the rifle had been resting bleeding profusely !
Took several weeks to heal !!!

Sorry for the topic deviation, but this reminded me of that incident.

Next time have it screwed into the end-grain of the fore-end tip? We all can relate to those, ‘I eventually got caught out’ moments.

only on the "smart ones" :)
But then I have never been able to tell what firearms I own are stupid and which are smart?? :)

I believe the reason is that building a double square bridge receiver for a M70 would raise the cost of the rifle to around $4000 or more depending on the caliber. Any one that disagrees, please chime in.

Then how is CZ doing it for less than $1500 in DG calibers holding 4 and 5 in the magazine?

Winchester isn't doing it because the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
Retooling to a double square bridge to satisfy a niche market (let's face it...we are a niche) doesn't make sense to the bean counters.
It would take them 20+ years to see the "return on investment" for the initial cost.

CZ is already tooled up on the double square so it's no big deal for them.
Now if they would do as the OP has suggested, my $$$ wouldn't be going to AHR.

In the end I choose CZ for the mag capacity and double square bridge, AHR fixes the rest.

I agree, the reason I went with the Winchester is so I didn’t have to swap the safety and barrel band the sling stud. I couldn’t see myself using more than four rounds so I wasn’t concerned there. If it was larger than 375 I might be more worried about bases working loose. The biggest reason I went Winchester is I’m familiar with them.

Since you opened up stupid CZ questions, I have another stupid (I have plenty) question. I'm looking at some CZ .458 WM and .458 Lott rifles for sale (specifically on Cabelas Gun Vault). They have NO crossbolts. Are they older models or what? Most of the CZs in .416 Rigby I've seen either have one or no crossbolts? I thought the purpose of the crossbolts was to provide strength and rigidity to the stock/action? Maybe someone here could explain this? Thank you!
